What's happened to "DU/My Posts"...when I try to find folks who replied

to my posts today, I'm thrown off into some DU Blogosphere that I've not even gotten together?

Is this function "No Longer Available?" Will we now have to go to "DU SEARCH FUNCTION" to reply to those who posted on our "current post?"

What if I and others don't WANT TO DO BLOGS? How do we find (quick) a way to see who cared enough about our posts to respond. :shrug:

38. We're not done yet :)

Eventually you will be able to customize the My DU screen to your liking. Currently it's displaying your 20 most recent posts, and you have to click through to see the rest. We plan to set it up so that you can choose how many posts you display in that section, so if you wanted to display 100 posts there, you could. That way you could effectively set it up so that your My DU page is pretty much the same as your My Posts page.

Alternatively, if you use private messages more than you post on the board, you could set the My Posts section so it only displays a few posts, and set the Inbox section so it displays a lot more. Hopefully it will be fully customizable - that's the plan, anyway. We were just excited about the new page so we wanted to get it up there for people to see. :)

others do. I guess the rest of us should just give it up and go to our "rocking chairs" as the "clueless."

I always thought that Bill Gates used "GEEK SPEAK" and yet I muddled my way through it because Win 95 allowed me to get online and be able to function.

Since then I wade through GEEKSPEAK that I don't understand but "hunt and peck" my way through. These days I find it's all gone ahead of me...so it's time for folks like me to give it up. We have oldie computers, oldie sensibilities, and aren't able to adapt quickly to stuff that isn't explained to us.

So...it's okay...we are dead ...old ...and should just "GET LOST."

I understand. And, really, it's okay. It's amazing we lasted this long...with our "hunt and peck." And, I don't think that it's up to YOU GUYS to help us. We can go to "Books-a-Million" and buy many books on "Computers and HTML for DUMMIES" and educated our clueless selves.

If you want to see your My Posts page, you just need to click the "My DU" icon and then click the "My Posts" icon. It's one extra click.

and sorry for that... But, I do think there are many DU'ers, not as loud mouthed as me...who might have problems and need more explanation. Not all of us are as "whiz bang" with the computer stuff as you guys...and you've eased us through for years...but this seems a BIG JUMP without knowing where you are heading with DU.

Maybe it's just the way "I learn" and maybe others...but where are you going with DU so I can kind of try to learn along to get forward with you all?

I thought that most folks who wanted to talk to each other all the time on DU used AOL IM'ing? Basically, what we've learned over the years we've been doing this is that people use DU in all kinds of different ways. For example, I'm sure my "routine" when I log on to DU every day is very different to yours - I bet I visit different forums, and different pages, and click on different threads, and follow different stories. There's no "right" or "wrong" way to browse DU, and I expect everyone has a different "routine" that they like to follow.

I understand that the changes we make can sometimes be confusing at first and seem a little overwhelming, and we appreciate your patience while we implement them. There is a method to our madness, though - we're trying to get DU to a place where DUers can feel like they have a great deal of control over their own personal experience when they browse the site. The upgrades and changes have been aimed at trying to give DUers more power to use DU in their own unique way.

But if people are already comfortable with their DU "routine" then the changes can sometimes be a bit jarring. For example, the "My DU" page is a useful upgrade for many people, but it required us to move the "My Posts" icon. So for people like yourself who are used to seeing the "My Posts" icon at the top of the page, it can be a bit of a shock when it's moved.

Nevertheless, these changes are important for us to keep improving DU. We try hard not to make too many changes to things that people are used to, but sometimes it's necessary and I understand that that can be a bit of a pain. If you already like DU the way it is and feel that you personally don't need any more changes to make it better for you, I can totally understand your frustration when things get moved around, especially when other people may be cheering the changes and saying that they're an improvement.

The bottom line is that we feel it's important not to rest on our laurels. The web has changed a lot in the five years that DU has been operating - for example, when we started DU there were no such things as "blogs" - and we want to try to stay current and provide features that people are used to getting on other sites.

So again, I do understand your frustration, but I also hope you understand that we're not just making these changes to be a pain in the ass, we're really trying hard to make DU as good as it can be for as many people as possible.

and thanks for recognizing that the abrupt change does throw some of us off, and makes us feel that we are out of step and clueless.

I didn't see this post until this a.m. I left the posting because I thought I was whining and didn't have any more to say. I experimented with the "My DU" button for awhile and think I figured out how it works. I did see "MY Posts" and then when I hit "past 48 hours posts" it looked like the old screen that I was familiar with. So...I think eventually I can work it out.

Your explanation did help and maybe others who were reluctant to speak up might find it helpful, too.

I understand that having a big "Chat Room" isn't what DU should be about and was causing lots of us who appreciate more focus and discussion to be very frustrated, so your new direction is understandable. Rather than just putting more restrictions on the Forums as to what folks post and how people respond this allows some flexibility. I and others will find our way around eventually...after we get over the shock and become more comfortable with the change.

I'm used to hitting "My Posts" and seeing a list of "replies" to my "threads."

Now I get stuff I don't understand. The explanation seems to be that I have many more options including "My Blog." But, I haven't set up "My Journals" and don't know that I ever will.

I'm told to "Right Click" twice and I can find "My Posts." That seems an "extra step" and I don't understand why this was changed "without warning," since it didn't seem to have anything to do with the new "Journals" function.

The explanations given ...I couldn't compute in my brain. So, it says that the "computer clueless" no longer need to be here....

I imagine...I could do my old "hunt and peck" to learn...and since I love computers...but am clueless I still manage to have some "intuitive savvy" and find my way around. I just couldn't find my way around this new change. Yet everyone else has found it "seamless" without problems.

Said to me it was time I just got a rocking chair and moved on because the technology was leaving me. I don't have an I-Pod...or a cell phone...so..you can see...I'm very out of date and can't even understand the Admins instructions.......:shrug;

48 hours sometimes is not enough when a topic is "hot" but you are not responding within that time frame, but just reading the continued responses. If it could be expanded at will to say 5 or 7 days, I think it would be the sweetest little tool in town. ;) It would also make it easier to find a recent topic post that you had replied to when making cross references to updated info later in a different discussion. Sort of an easier way to combine the info in timely topics and fill in missing pieces of the story without having to search for either your own posts or the topic and wade through all the info such searches bring forward.
