If Saddam was so hated and the Sunnis were so hated why in a country where the law allowed every household to have an AK 47 were twenty percent of the population able to control the other eighty percent?
Also in reference to the footage you mention, I've pointed out to people the video of Saddam walking through a crowd of people, reaching out and taking a gun from someone and cranking off a few rounds into the air. Yet when Bush the Elder visited the troops in Kuwait during the build-up to GW 1, it was reported that all the troops were required to turn in their ammunition.
