| OK, the College Republicans at my school have put up weird posters |
|
all over the place.
Yellow ones with BOLD black writing that say:
"Did the Civil Rights Movement Let You Down?"
That's it...except for the College Republicans logo across the bottom.
What a bunch of freaks....they make me long for a draft. It gladdens my heart and puts a spring in my step to think of these little jackasses in uniform.

And if it's being directed against minorities and women, wouldn't that make them a male white supremacist group?

|
For whites, the message clearly is that the civil rights movement has only helped the shiftless minorities.
For blacks, the message is how much better off are they than pre-civil rights? (Of course, the rights rollbacks and the disenfranchisement are the doing of the Repukes, but they won't want to mention that.)

have any of you pathetic doughy little neocon republicans ever had a single civil rights violated?
Have any of you ever been told you can't marry the person you love? Have any of you ever been fired for your perceived sexual orientation or denied a joint mortgage on real estate? I don't even want to HEAR the word "civil rights" drop from their fleshy lips. I know where they're going with this and it's utterly disgusting - they want to accuse democrats of still being "southern democrats", of being racists, but the NEXT poster you should put up is that the "southern democrats" all switched parties forty years ago to the republican party when they figured out that the democratic party was going to stand up for civil rights, and now under republican stewardship "civil rights" does NOT mean equal opportunity, public assistance of any kind, any form of healthcare, jobs or wage protection or anything more generous than "being allowed" to order at the same counter and eat in the same McDonalds as the white folks.

They expect to get minority support from THIS message?
First, they're obviously white, whoever wrote this. Notice the "you" part.
Second, they're admitting a huge problem exists for minoritites, yet REPUBLICANS are in charge and have been in TOTAL control since 2000.
Third, the largest gains for minority rights have happened during DEMOCRATIC governments.
Most minorities know what the score is. These posters will send them away screaming.

Maybe they'll think a bunch of big black college football players did it.
And go hide in their dormitories for the rest of the semester.
(Honestly, is this what these idiots do for fun? Really, really freakin' pathetic fools.)
Let me know how this goes. I used to have great fun tormenting the Reaganites when I was in school in 1980.

The "FAILUREs" are not specified, leaving each of us to fill it in. Fill it in with ANY perceived injustice or opportunity shortfall or dissapointment life has handed us. This is only clever on the surface, and will not gain the RW any credit for the civil rights movement. We all remember who paid the price for the gains in voting rights, access to public services, freedom of association and the like. We know who our friends are, we know who the bigots are, we know who lies and who pretends because of their hi profile jobs.
We know better, so stick up you pitiful little posters, and the rest of us will enjoy living as liberals, celebrating life with the confidence that you're isolated, pretense to living is punishment enough.

|
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 06:18 PM by GloriaSmith
My take on the sign is that they're trying to court African-Americans. The GOP had plans to push a big "minorities should vote Republican" campaign but then Hurricane Katrina hit. Images of African-Americans drowning while Daddy dearest rested on his ranch and then partied with McCain probably didn't poll well with the focus group. Perhaps they think now is the time to start their campaign. :eyes:
If I'm correct, then what a STUPID campaign! All one has to do is remind the students what part the REPUBLICAN politicians played during the Civil Rights Movement. They would be far more successful if they communicated to minorities through positive action rather than empty rhetoric or re-writing history.
In the meantime, can you tape enlistment papers to the sign? ;)

When did these little spoiled sots become the experts on Civil Rights? I'd laugh my ass off at them and let it go. The right person is going to come along and set the little weasels straight and they won't be proclaiming any "expert" status then.
They'll be lucky if they don't get hurt. And I mean that in the nicest way.

|
thats what I did, last fall when the College Republicans on my campus went around putting up posters that said "AMERICA: LOVE OR LEAVE IT" with American flags on it. I went around writing on the posters, "Hey College Republicans, If You Love It So Much Why Don't You Sign Up" I guess the message pissed them off, because a few days later none of the posters were hanging up. And I haven't seen any other rude posters hanging up since then.

It's a coded message for "did them uppity women and colored folks take your job/spot in college/scholarship/other entitlement that as a white male you were automatically entitled to?"
They're after the "angry white male" who blames his own lack of success on the success of others.

the whacko author of "the Bell Curve" as a recent speaker to the school. Apparently the guy now has a book out touting a "solution" to the welfare state and espouses the government paying everyone, from Bill Gates to the homeless, $10,000 per year. He claims that anyone can live on that a year. He says that it gets rid of welfare and makes things equal for everyone.
I may have the facts somewhat wrong but that's his general idea.
The point here is, that my son and some of his friends went to hear the guy speak. That's the point of education, right, to learn.
He said he and his friends came away with the feeling that the guy was brilliant but completely nuts and that he earned no credibility with this talk. Some of the students really nailed him with questions that he couldn't coherently answer.
College Republicans and their idiocies aside, I have great hopes for this generation of students. :toast:
