| This Tammy Duckworth isn't going to know what hit her in the fall (Il 6th) |
|
She is a total political novice, which by itself is not a political disqualifier, by so far I see no evidence that she is ready for this campaign in the fall. Christine Cegelis has more campaign experience, better name recognition and will fight back against Republican attacks in the fall. Duckworth is no Paul Hackett, who was a fighter. She is not going to be ready for what Karl Rove's stormtroopers throw at her. She may think that being an Iraq war veteran will inoculate her against attacks, but it won't, and I see signs that she will respond to them about as well as Max Cleland did. That's former senator Max Cleland. She will be called a traitor and a terrorist sympathizer, and I can see her responding to such attacks with a detailed policy wonkish speech about health care, which won't cut it.
I will endorse Duckworth at a time of my choosing, but I'm not yet ready to do so.

But neither is Rahm Ehmanuel, Barack Obama and Richard Durbin who brushed Cegelis aside. And many of Duckworth's financial contributors are from out of state too, so I feel that I have as much right as they do to take a public position on the race.
Also, I have applied for a job in that district, which means that there is a slim chance that indeed I could be a voter in that district this fall.

therefore, she needs our support. The alternative is to support the Republican candidate. I may not have been Duckworth's biggest fan either, but now that she won the primary, she's our girl. If I lived in Illinois' Sixth District, I'd certainly vote for her.

A) If you're not in her district, it doesn't matter so much what you think.
B) If you are in her district, and you don't support her now that she has won the primary over your favored candidate, you are the kind of voter who has gotten us into the mess we are in now.

Be disappointed, your candidate lost. It's understandable and it's ok.
Despite DLC rhetoric to the contrary, winning in the end doesn't always mean your candidate won, in the end winning means the policies and practices you believe in get implemented.Your candidate's winning might make that easier, but it isn't the only way.
Cegelis took so much of the vote, looking at her popular points is essential. Clearly some of her positions resonated with the voters. Duckworth will do well to fold the good ones into her campaign.
She and her staff need to be educated and convinced. Sounds like a worthy challenge for Cegelis supporters.

She has the support and network of the Democratic party in the state. I think swift boating her would be a tragic mistake by her opponent. And last, but not least, she has a hell of a story to tell.
Go Tammy Duckworth

Christine may have been your choice, but see lost a close primary race. She certainly didn't run as the incumbent. She may have been the better candidate but it was Duckworth that won & has been getting national media attention. I never heard of Christine till yesterday, whereas I've seen Duckworth on CNN a few month ago. Hyde is a national figure & will be hard to beat. Everyone needs to stick together to have a chance. Duckworth may be what the people want - a non-career politician & a new face.

Duckworth fought when many people in her situation have considered death a better option. AND she led others in the midst of it.
Her body and life as she knew it were shattered, and she rose up.
So, there is some actual evidence to contradict that which you speculate upon.

| 29. Many Became 6th District Race "Experts" Last Night |
|
I file this as the "flavor of the moment" around here...people who jump into a story without finding out what had preceeded.
I'm across the border in the 8th...and supported Cegelis in 2004 and in this primary...with both checks and shoe leather. This primary was a mixed blessing as it did bring out a lot more Democrats in an area that had been a GOOP bastion since Fred Flinstone was in diapers and drew a lot of national and state interest into this area...one that had long been forgotten by ALL Democrats. The downside is that it ended up being portrayed as a clash of two Democratic organizations both with the same end game...stealing a Repugnican seat.
I stand ready to help if and where needed in the 6th District (I can see it out my window) as well as retaining the 8th and hoping for some progress in the 10th and 14th as well...since ANY Democrat is far prefered to the corrupt Repugnican troll dolls that have represented this area.
Cheers...

judging what someone says based on the fact that they carry an avatar that represents men who run around tossing and hitting balls for a living.
Not advisable in either case.
No "Expert" myself , but until recently a full-time resident of Illinois, I read up on the race and donated as I thought best months ago.

Duckworth has had press in two of the women's magazines I read (Glamour and Marie Claire). Before the primary, I knew who she was and I live in Louisiana. Granted that doesn't mean much since I live outside her district, but her name isn't totally unknown.
Going from what I've read about her, she seems to be quite the fighter. Certainly a green ,or really any, candidate can use knowledgable staffers and volunteers. Why not help a fellow Democrat out instead of quitting before the race really has begun??
