Saw "V for Vendetta" today...

...and I thought it was terrific -- both literally and figuratively, come to think of it. ;-)
Oh how I would love to see us descend upon the White House some time in the near future -- not to blow it up, but to stand in silent protest by the millions, demanding change -- starting with the departure of the present occupant and all of his minions. If only we could put together a campaign to get people to show up at the White House one day all wearing masks -- what a sight that would be. And they'd not be able to intimidate a million demonstrators by threatening to photograph them, if each and every one had a mask on.
The main issue would be message: we would not want to endorse, or appear to endorse blowing anything up -- so using the Guy Fawkes masks would not be the best idea. I suggest Mardi Gras masks, to serve as a reminder of the horrific ineptness and callousness of the current regime... and use the tag line: People should not be afraid of the government, government should be afraid of the people.
Our government lets us down in so many ways, on so many levels, it's not even funny. From laws that allow outsourcing and insourcing, to laws that encourage continual degradation of the environment to feed corporate profits, to dictating science based on religious beliefs and corporate agendas, to starting a war of aggression under false pretenses, to trying to dismantle Social Security, to lack of national health care, to the destruction of the public school system, to the complete utter and abject failure to protect New Orleans either before or after the fact -- it goes on and on.
We need to take it back.

3. Ours is, if you read Howard Zinn ...

... it's a government for the minority (rich white dudes) against the majority (the rest of us), which leads to them short-sheeting, playing ends against the middle, and generally dumbing us down to the point that we're ignorant and docile.
And they've been so very successful. Sigh. :(

You are so spot on. You should compose this into a LTTE.
We must reign in the corporations, revoke their personhood status. We should control them, not the other way around.

...seems there are a lot of us thinking about asserting the people's presence for a change.
As for the black hoodies: I could see it, but would still like to suggest actual masks. For one thing, Mardi Gras masks could be a pointed reminder of New Orleans and their ongoing failure there; for another, it removes the intimidation factor through photographs -- the hoodies only partially work for that purpose. Also, not everyone has seen the Eminem video, I suspect it's a generational and gender thing -- i.e. I'm guessing mostly younger men would be familiar with the video. Whereas we're all familiar with New Orleans and Mardi Gras.
But then again -- black hoodies and Mardi Gras masks together? I could see it, it would be amazing to see a huge crowd come out in a costume that makes a statement. And it would help if weather were a factor.
Ah well, dreamin' on...

6. Bandannas are good. They fold in your pocket before and after.

I think if they cheat in the next election and win -people will show up for drill and risk defaulting on payments and losing their jobs, so they can protest.
