Folks from around the country may not realize just how huge Atlanta's immigrant population is. Now they know.

WAGA-TV (Fox affiliate) tonight reported a turnout of 50,000, double the expected 25k. Their coverage was entirely favorable. Russ Spencer even interviewed some of the participants en Espanol!

ATLANTA (AP) Tens of thousands of immigrants spilled into the streets of Atlanta today in a national day of action billed as a "campaign for immigrants' dignity." Police estimated at least 50,000 people, many in white T-shirts and waving signs and American flags, joined a two-mile march from a largely immigrant neighborhood northeast of Atlanta. The Georgia protesters had two targets: congressmen weighing immigration reform and state legislation now awaiting Governor Perdue's signature that would require adults seeking many state-administered benefits to prove they are in the U-S legally. Nineth Castillo, a 26-year-old waitress from Guatemala who joined the Atlanta march, said she has lived in the United States for eleven years "without a scrap of paper." Asked whether she was afraid to parade her undocumented status in front of a massive police presence, she laughed and said: "Why? They kick us out, we're coming back tomorrow." In North Carolina and Dallas, immigrant groups called for an economic boycott to show their financial impact. In Pittsburgh and other cities, protesters gathered at lawmakers' offices to make their voices heard as Congress considers immigration reforms. (***04/10/06 @ 9:30pm***)

And I recognize only the protestors who value the American flag. Those raising their discarded country's flags left their previous country by free choice and their government didn't seem to care, so obviously they mustn't think of it very highly.

and march against gay marriage and against ending Terri Schiavo's suffering and against a woman's right to choose?

I'm not coming down on you, but I want to put that point out there when other say they've got "divided loyalty."

Ask them about the people who parade around with a cross and march against The Constitution. Does their loyalty belong to the bible or the constitution? The Poop or the pResident?

Everyone comes from somewhere or believes in something outside the boundaries of this country.

7. This is really something

In December 2004, January 2005 we stood at the State House in Columbus, Ohio begging for a recount of the votes that would determine the outcome of the election for the entire United States. Care to guess how many Americans were there? Less than 200 dedicated people. These pictures are amazing but it strikes me as incredibly sad. Peace
