WASHINGTON, April 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Fleet service workers at Aloha Air Cargo voted overwhelmingly to join the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the union announced today.
The fleet service workers voted 2-to-1 to join Local 986 in So. El Monte, Calif. The 210 workers were previously represented by the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers. The election was coordinated by the National Mediation Board (NMB).
"We welcome the Aloha Air Cargo fleet service workers to the Teamsters," said Capt. David Bourne, director of the Teamsters Airline Division. "We will work hard to provide them with top-notch representation and negotiate a good contract."
The carrier is comprised of the cargo operations of the former Aloha Airlines, which ceased operation as a passenger airline on March 31, 2008. Seattle-based Saltchuck Resources purchased Aloha's cargo division.
The Teamsters Airline Division, under the direction of Bourne, represents more than 40,000 airline employees.
Founded in 1903, the Teamsters Union represents more than 1.4 million hardworking men and women in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
