HARRISBURG, Pa. -- A Pennsylvania lawmaker urged state employees who are not being fully paid during the state's ongoing budget battle to call a U.S. Department of Labor hotline and make a formal complaint against the state.
It appears that employees calling the line have gotten a result -- a federal investigation of Pennsylvania.
A new message is playing on the DOL hotline -- just for Pennsylvania state workers. After listening to a couple of options, a recorded voice says (the following message was playing as of Friday afternoon):
"If you're an employee of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania calling regarding your paycheck or hours worked, press 2 now." When a caller presses 2, the following message plays:
"If you are a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania employee, please know that the U.S. Department of Labor wage and hour division has initiated an investigation of the Commonwealth to ensure that your rights under the Fair Labor Standards Act are protected. There is no need for you to file an individual complaint. All affected employees will be covered by our investigation into this matter."
