Should we be worried about Cuba? Here's a snip from LBN:
U.S. Prepares for Showdown in Cuba
U.S. Prepares for Possible Showdown in Cuba, Congress Seeks to Encourage Cuban Dissidents

By LAURIE KELLMAN

WASHINGTON Aug 2, 2006 (AP)— The White House and Congress, caught unaware by Fidel Castro's illness, prepared Wednesday for a possible showdown in Cuba as lawmakers drafted legislation that would give millions of dollars to dissidents who fight for democratic change.

"The message will be, `The United States stands with you,'" Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., one of the bill's authors, said in an interview. "Be ready to assert your independence."

There was no sign of upheaval in Cuba on Wednesday, two days after Castro stunned U.S. officials and many of his own countrymen with the news that he had temporarily ceded power to his brother, Raul, in order to undergo surgery.
(snip)

For now, Bush administration officials and members of Congress were focused on offering dissidents cash for fighting for democratic change.

1. Las apuestas estan abiertas!!
Bet that they will F___ this one up. Legislation to give millions of dollars to dissidents?? What?? Death squats against Castristas??

I hope not but when I think of Cubans I know they will handle this on their own and with no need for intervention. I think of Cuba as a very mature society capable of doing a lot with very little. They don't need us at all to solve their own policy problems. I think we have a lot to learn from Cubans.

2. "Intervention" is actually what I'm worried about! lol!
I have no doubt Cuba will solve Cuba's problems

I'm worried because pResidente Pinocchio and his cabinet are all equal parts stupidity, greed and ineptitude. I think that's about the right ratio. :silly: And if they see a business opportunity, they can't help themselves.

5. The Bush Administration is so Evil, I worry about Cuba
George is just dying to leave his mark on the world. He may have the same foolish ideas Reagan had about communism, especially in the Americas. The price to people in Central America during the Reagan years was death and destruction. I fear everything Bush touches will be disastrous for the majority of people, and benefit the few, wealthy bastards like himself. Is there anything we can do to combat Bush on this issue?

So few people in this country truly understand the underlying causes that lead to the Cuba revolution. Too few have taken the time to learn much about what Cuba is like today. Bringing Democracy to any area of the world generally means just another way to exploit and push around those we say we are Democratizing. Democracy would be wonderful, but we are hardly a shining example of a Democratic Nation.

6. The whole attitude of our government toward Cuba
gives cause for concern.

Maybe that earthquake yesterday still is affecting me, but I have a feeling that the mendigos have seen Cuba as now easy pickings. With their usual concern for consequences. I so hope I'm wrong. :(
