| I have a dilemma (would not if there were single payer health care) |
|
My husband is not permanently employed at the moment (the insurance we have runs out the last day of September). I just found a suspicious growth on my face near my hairline. I had an actinic keratosis removed from the other side of my face about 2 years ago, but I do not think this is a keratosis. I know I need to be seen, but damn, I hate the idea of being caught with that pre-existing condition thing with new insurance (when my husband is offered a permanent job).
I am in California and would not qualify for Medi-Cal. I know I need to go have this checked and soon. I just fear being caught without any coverage (or having to pay through the nose for COBRA just to get this treated if it requires treatment.)
I just needed to vent. I am calling my doctor right now.

| 1. All good vibes for your doctor visit! |
|
It's bad enough to have suspicious lumps without fear about insurance. I'm glad you're going ahead with this and not letting it wait. Let us know how you're doing.

I saw my PCP Monday, and he gave me a referral to dermatology. I was told to call dermatology Tuesday morning to set up the appointment. I got a call from them Monday afternoon and have set up an appointment for Wed. August 8.
Deep breaths.
I was actually surprised that they called me.

Take care of yourself during the wait for the appointment and possible path. It can be pretty stress-filled. Let us know the results. We're keeping you in our thoughts.

| 5. Post Dermatology Update - I am all clear! |
|
Apparently what I thought was a mole was an angioma and not cancerous at all. The dermatologist did a thorough skin check and froze off a keratosis that had been previously frozen off but had grown back. He told me to keep an eye on one mole that is dark for changes but as yet, it is clear!
:woohoo:

| 8. If you get flare ups... |
|
of the actinic keretosis see if you can get some Aldara cream prescribed before you lose your insurance. My hands and arms were covered with spots of it and this cream (it's prescription and not particularly fun to use) really does cause it to go away and you can probably squiral enough away between now and end of sep to cover you till pre-existing conditions clause on next insurance policy fades.
