| Another 14hr day at MD Anderson. Cetuximab/Bevacizumab question. |
|
Hi so here we are again. Thank god they have wireless internet here -- or I'd go crazy. Some of you know my Mom has been fighting eiglottic squamous cell carcinoma. She had a terrific battle last year, and was clear of the cancer for almost a year.
Now it's back -- it metastasized to her abdominal wall. She has some inconclusive spots in her lungs and a few enlarged lymphnodes in her chest as well.
Today they are enrolling her in a clinical study for Cetuximab/Bevacizumab. These targeted therapy drugs are used for other cancers, but are investigation in head and neck cancers. Anyone been on them? She wonders what to really expect. They gave her a list of side effects a page and a half long.
This drug combo is her ONLY hope, but it's an "attractive" option -- so her oncologist says. Typical treatment for Stage 4 SCHNC often doesn't provide relief for a significant period of time.
She has has platinum based chemo, radiation and surgery to date.

| 3. My husband is a head and neck cancer survivor. |
|
He was stage 3---finished treatment 03/06. Had some abnormal cells removed about 2 months ago from a vocal cord----not cancer; "mild dysplasia."
Haven't heard of the meds you mentioned, but MD is one of the best.
Good vibes and thoughts to you and your family.
Keep us posted.
