| OK if I make the first post in here? |

I think this is a great idea. I'm HOH, and wear aides in both ears. I only got them two years ago though I should have had them long before that (it's been an ongoing thing for me) and now wouldn't give them up for anything. It can be very isolating, and so I'm very glad for the help they offer.
I had surgery to remove a cholesteatoma from my right ear a couple months ago, and luckily I'm getting most the hearing I had back in that ear.

| 2. Hi - Rock and Roll ears here. |

Operating at about 1/3 normal - but haven't made the leap to hearing aids yet.

| 11. rock and roll ear in the only one I have that works anymore |
|
had an accident several years ago and all I have is a piece of skin where the eardrum used to be. the three little bones are gone and all I hear from it is crickets, lots of 'em too. When the accident first happened I couldn't, well lets say I was bed ridden for several months, virtigo, know all about bed pans etc.

| 6. How much was your surgery? |
|
That's what I need to have done in my right ear too, probably. I went to the doctor and he said that was likely it. I didn't get the mri cuz I figured I can't afford the surgery anyway. But it would be nice to have an idea how much it actually costs.
Glad you're getting your hearing back, at least in one ear!!

I'll have to check into that. I have insurance and still wound up paying about $1000 out of pocket under the plan I had at the time (our company was just acquired and the new coverage is 100% of hospital care, go figure). It doesn't generally involve staying over night... I think it was about $15,000 along with whatever the surgeon, the anesthesiologist, and his service company charged. It's still a big chunck of change. I hope you can get it. If this is what you have it doesn't go away, it gets worse and more involved. I wish you the best of luck.

| 10. Oh well forget that!! |

lol. Yeah, I know it doesn't go away because it's been gradually worsening for around ten years. But I'll never be able to come up with $15,000. I guess I'll just hope the other ear stays well. :)

I'm glad you are getting some of your hearing back in the right ear. I know that after getting good fitting and working aids you can really appreciate life again. Another good thing is when the grandchildren come over you can take them out and just bounce them on your knee with a grin and not have to hear all the racket ;-).

| 12. Welcome to DDU, indigo32! It's nice to see you here! |

Sorry to hear about your surgery, yikes! :-( But that's great news about most of your hearing coming back in that ear...:woohoo:
My mother really should get hearing aides, should have long ago and even has a prescription for them, but she just refuses. Good for you that you got them...:applause:
