It was incredibly disheartening and I'm really, really hoping it doesn't turn out like this (i.e. with infrastructure getting the shaft because of f*ng tax cuts).

Barack....is there some plan behind this? WTF? Tax cuts?
ehh.....trying to remain 'cautiously optimistic'...
I mean, Barack's a smart guy. He's gotta know some fucking reason for doing this...?

More pandering to the far right and FAILED economic policies.
At a time when state budgets everywhere are under distress- our fearless leaders propose more tax cuts over federal revenue sharing.
Brilliant. Keep it up, and 2010 will look like 1994 (without the economic recovery) -and Obama will end up a one term president.

policies like tax cuts as articles of faith and "pragmatism" -and thus lack the courage and political fortitude to put forth a bold and EFFECTIVE plan.
This despite the fact that Obama and the Dems in the Senate have more than enough political capital to do so.
Cats (and especially arrogant cats like Summers, et al.) don't up and change their stripes just because of an election....

|
I didn't see "tax cuts for the top 2%" anywhere.
But still, how about 17% tax cuts and 40% infrastructure....y'know? Not the other friggin' way around.

|
Edited on Sun Jan-25-09 03:36 PM by Shiver
If you count the items in the bill relating towards bonds and other infrastructure incentives. May would find that to be a bit of s stretch though, so I can understand why they wouldn't count them.
Te taxes are aimed at the middle class, and most of them aren't even cuts. Many items in the bill would be more accurately described as tax-relief - investing and funding key public services without taking money from the middle class to do so.
I'd prefer 40-50% infrastructure, actually - give enough people jobs so that the tax items benefit the most people. Hard to save when you don't have a job...

they can to keep him in line. There's no doubt that the economics team Obama picked is a bunch of failures who love their financial elite friends and would turn the entire treasury over to them if they could.
Wait. They've already started doing that to the tune of two TRILLION smackeroos. I guess being a failure has its benefits. None of these folks will be losing their homeS or filing for unemployment no matter how bad the economy gets.
Peter DeFazio is my New Hero. I hope he can do something to change this.
Get on the phones folks!!!
Not that it'll make any difference, considering the opposition the public had to the original financial elites failure reward program that got passed last year.

Rachael and Defazio are right, but they are being slightly misleading in regard to the tax items. Most aren't cuts, and the ones that are are the ones Obama was talking about during the campaign. I can forgive them, though, because they are advocating for more infrastructure spending, which is needed in the bill - $200 billion isn't enough.
