My son is an appliance repair biz owner (Mr. Appliance), and whirlpool is doing just fine.

The majority of all Whirlpool laundry products are made in North America. Only a small percentage come from a Whirlpool facility in Germany. The bulk of them are manufactured in Clyde & Marion, OH.

They have operations around the whole world. They employ people around the whole world. Their products are noted for being pretty darn good. But they are rather better than Maytag, so I'm surprised to see the M-word show up. (I've learned if the company's name starts with an "M", the products aren't all that good. Maxell, Memorex, Microsoft... Maytag... it's bizarre, but accurate so far... :D )

If they have to do layoffs, Heaven forbid, may they be just as equal and not shave off US workers while shifting those jobs to other countries.

Although to give Whirlpool credit, they are often the top or among the top rated brands for reliability according to Consumer Reports.

7. What hollow schlock this commercial is/was!

It was made back in the days when the concern du jour was falling American quality. Whirlpool bragged big on being pro-Amurica back then.

But hlately they've acted the same way all the other American corporations have acted -- with their eye on the bottom line. Dollars first, Amurica second.

Locally, Whirlpool used to be the number-one employer. Today, those who still have jobs at Whirlpool are among the lucky few.

As for all that pride in American engineering and know-how and quality -- symbolized so obviously by footage of an eagle fishing -- these days, that sort of thing comes from Mexico.
