He worked as a summer associate in a law firm. That is where he met his wife.

Also, working for a non-profit is not that different from working in a for profit organization. The main difference is that a non-profit has to keep to a budget.

Having worked in a non-profit (raising and handling money at that) for years I can say that, just as in a for profit business, you sell products and services. The only difference is that the people who pay you for selling your products and services are, to a great extent different, from the people who buy or use your products and services.

But, non-profits, just like for profits, have to compete with other profits and non-profits for clients, only with a non-profit, you have to compete not only to sell your product to the end user but also to sell its worth to people in your community. That's a double challenge.

I believe that Obama also had other jobs when he was younger that he does not discuss much.
