1st female prime minister of Canada, inherited from Mulroney, and when she took Canada to the polls 132 days later she lost 167 of the conservatives 169 seats, taking the Progressive Conservatives from the ruling party to 5th place behind the Liberals, Reform Party, NDP and Bloc Quebecois. The Progressive Conservatives never recovered and eventually merged with the regressive reform party to become the Conservative Party (or the regressive conservatives)Interestingly this new part was nearly called the Canadian Conservative Reform Alliance Party (or CCRAP). Definitely an accomplishment on Campbell's part. Now if only the US Republicans could only accomplish this trick.
