How does he define 'socialist' anyway? Is a socialist a person who goes around and does a lot of... teabagging?

|
and the racists and ignorant xenophobes that make up the bulk of the teabagger protesters.
Lou Dobbs is one of the few to belong to both groups.
I'm guessing that what Olbermann and Garofalo said hit a little close to home for Dobbs.

| 9. Lou Dobbs should go back and listen to himself |
|
I have never bashed immigrants.
He actually said that without missing a beat. Unbelievable.
Dobbs had a couple of good points. First, Americans are tired of ideology, both from the left and the right. Ideology is nonsense, he said, and I would elaborate that it blinds the ideologue and gets him to say things that just aren't true. Second, Ms. Garofalo was wrong to tar all the tea baggers with the racist brush, although there was a lot more racism there than Mr. Dobbs will admit. Nevertheless, it was a silly thing to say. Perhaps it would be fair to suggest Ms. Garofalo is an ideologue prone to say silly things because they fit the cartoonish world view that ideologues have.
A point to make about the tea parties is that what may have started out as a grass roots affair by libertarians, who are not inherently racist, was soon smothered in astro turf by Republican politicians, organizers and publicists, including Fox News and Rush Limbaugh; these are demagogues who have no qualms about making racist appeals people who think Afro-Americans are lazy if any Afro-American holds a job, including President of the United States or NFL quarterback, he must be the beneficiary of some kind of hiring quota. So what started out as a grass roots movement expressing genuine concern for the dangers of spending more money when we're already in the hole was swelled by the ranks people who think President Obama is a gay Muslim Communist, an illegal immigrant and an abortion-performing terrorist. Now, there's a cartoonish world view that is the result of drinking the kool aid served up by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.

I'm actually sad tonight over my stupid hockey team.
I have no idea why I get so emotionally involved because it's nothing but heartache.
So yea.
As for Dobbs, I used to watch just to get a roundup of the news, but I had to stop because of his blatant immigrant bashing and smug editorializing of every news story like he's some sort of scholar. :eyes:
I have fewer headaches not listening to him, although it was a pleasure to hear him lose his composure on that clip! ha!

Yeah he is anti-immigrant as long as their the right kind of immigrant by that he means either WASPish or wealthy. I would suspect that wealthy would override any objections to race or ethnicity. Okay he's probably not quite that bad. Another thing is this 'beyond ideology' meme. Why is it that these people that are beyond ideology parrot the talking points of the far right? Does this mean they don't have any strongly held beliefs and can be easily influenced?

looking through the political videos at Youtube. It was fascinating and interesting to hear the M$M's ala Lou Dobbs spin on his observations and opinions of progressives and liberals. I think Lou Dobbs did a great job of covering all the talking points heavily seasoned with hypocrisy, irony, and pathos. Just thought it was worthy of sharing here as an example of the hollow, soundless screams of a neocon mouthpiece in a vacuum preaches to their corporate minions and slaves.

|
Edited on Sun Apr-19-09 09:55 PM by MrModerate
From their news media. Sheesh!
Let me tell you -- I'll happily take a double-scoop of zaniness over two bags of supercilious fatuity any day.
As a matter of fact, I disagree with Garofalo -- I think racism is toward the back of the pack here. These platoons of putzes are in the street because 1) they're scared generally, 2) they've been fed easy answers by Fux News and its analogs and wouldn't know reality if it bit 'em on the ass, and 3) the world has grown too complex for them to cope with and they're lashing out. Oh, and yes, 4) a black man has shown them that he's smarter, cooler, stronger, and has a better-looking family than they ever will. It's just not fair!
These are serious issues, and just because the lampreys, leeches, and ghouls of the right are jerking off at lightspeed to spurt their jism into the slimebucket doesn't mean that this can just be wished away. The ghost of Timothy McVeigh haunts every one of these demonstrations.

Talking heads are like compasses in that they always point the same direction. The direction that increases their celebrity. Whatever makes them the most heard or seen at the moment.
Lou is, of course, shameless but he has at least one angle pretty well cornered. His own PR frames his bipolar politics as exemplary of his "rugged individualism".
It's similar to me framing my state of unemployment as exemplary of my "independent means".

I give him credit for having been a rare US teevee newsguy to tout the benefits of ignorantly and maliciously maligned Western European social democracy for working class folks, but that past virtue makes his present vice all the more glaring since, after all, Obama is more capitalistic than them thar Yurpeens, so that if Dobbsypoo were being logical and consistent, he would be criticizing Obama from the left.
I deplore Dobbs' hostility toward anything "ethnic," but I still hope he starts walking back toward the light, because at least on some working folks' issues, he's been remarkably sane and humane and leftish, moreso even than most visible liberal Democrats.
