34. I have to disagree....

when Hillary said that Mr. Paul had 'the most' enthusiastic supporters than 'anyone' in the last campaign... she should have said 'some of the most' enthusiastic supporters, because in my opinion Obama had the MOST enthusiastic supporters.
I am sorry but I still see hints of soar grapes when HRC speaks and doesn't like to admit how good Obama really was during the campaign.
I know that HRC was buttering Mr. Paul up but that is no excuse to spin reality.

They have a time frame, but I doubt that they have an exact withdrawal day. It all will depend on how things on the ground go. Look what happened this past week.

if Ron Paul had made the cut, I just don't know... A truer statesman could only be found in maybe Dennis Kucinich or Russ Feingold. All three are deeply patriotic and that's a good thing. Shame we don't have more of them in Congress.

It's not hard for me to find common ground with the libertarian crew - but it only goes that far. I'm not sure I'd want a president that believes gov. has no business in education, health, regulation of markets etc. I mean being anti big gov is one thing but believing that 90% of our govs activity are totally unnecessary..well .. I disagree.

of course there are great examples of gov. waste and gov. being the problem. But I think Ron's approach is a bit extreme..

and there was this french dude who once told me... Les extremes se touchent...

But somehow I think he pretty much is what a republican should be. Imagine a congress full of Dennis Kucinichs and Pauls, can't say I wouldn't like that.

Ron Paul DID NOT vote for Iraq War I or Iraq War II.

ANd he has a superb understanding of the economy.

So I guess he doesn't really fall into any box. Maybe someday when everyone in the USA is fed up with the Corproate Politicans, people like Ron Paul, Dennis K, and Feingold can head a party of their own that will be able to make a big difference.

"Flat taxes would hurt many older people the most" and that was because at that time, they had the most money. (Living in california, almost all my landlords have been older people in their sixties.)

Now we have a system wherein the hedge fund managers who make hundreds of millions pay 15% and school teachers pay over 22%.

Try and explain how flat taxes would be worse than that?

As Carlotta Gall and Eric Schmidt explain in The Times, a near total lack of resistance from Pakistan’s military has allowed just “400 to 500 insurgents,” to seize control of the area.

The Channel 4 News report also features footage of a large Taliban rally earlier this week in the neighboring Swat Valley, where the government ceded control to the Taliban in a peace deal, and an interview with a spokesman for the Taliban in Swat.

On Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that “the Pakistani government is basically abdicating to the Taliban,” but the spokesman, Haji Muslim Khan, said that Taliban anger was partly caused by the presence of female American soldiers in the region. Mr. Khan said that Pakistan’s prime minister, Yousaf Raza Gilani, “should think about Western white women who take up arms and come from 20,000 miles away to fight against us here.”

She has a way of disarming critics with warm compliments, and this is an example of that. Also recall Sen. Lugar (R - Ind.) at her confirmation hearings -- a real heavyweight on foreign affairs and a serious guy who could have galvanized Republican opposition. He was inclined to be pretty critical of her, but after she praised his leadership on foreign policy he was smiling blissfully, content as an old dog getting scratched under the chin. She can fight with the best of them, but she has the brains to prevail without fighting more than just about anyone. She does it so well.

We're indeed fortunate to have someone with her skills and traits as secretary of state.

She charmed the old codgers in the senate. They expected a spoiled former First Lady who wanted to be noticed and hog the limelight. Instead, they found a very hard worker who was always prepared and generously shared her celebrity status to highlight the cause of some senator or another. She was popular in the senate and it showed during the confirmation hearings.

36. MOST THE "OLD" REPUBLICANS SUPPORTED OBAMA

There IS a new bipartisanship. In the last election most of the "old" Republicans ie., the Eisenhowers, Rockefellers, Goldwaters, Pauls, Bakers, Dirksens, Milllikans, Tafts, even some Reagans and Bush HW people supported Obama. There is still an ideological divide to be sure, but the "old" Republicans are much closer to the inclusiveness of Obama than to the "Born Againers and Limbaugh assholes". Reaching across the aisle to the current batch of Republican legislators is like trying to kiss a snake.

38. Ron Paul speaks serious truth. Clinton tries to bullshit herself out of it...

51% of the total budget still goes to the military. The defense budget was increased by 9%, to over $600 billion. Only 2% of that money goes to Iraq and Afghanistan. The US military will not leave Iraq. Tens of thousands of troops will remain there on permanent bases. The US still maintains what Paul calls "an empire", having troops in over 150 countries, including over 25 European countries. Meanwhile, they keep saying it's Social Security which we need to "reform" because it's such a big burden on the budget... :eyes:
