The point is not that Alito is compassionate, but that the RW is attacking Sonia Sotomayor for making the same point that Alito was making. Where was the outrage then?

Judicial perspectives (and outcomes) are filtered through the personal lenses of the individual justices. Their claim of blind justice is true in principle but not in reality...as long as we have actual people and not automatons sitting on the bench.

It doesn't necessarily mean that rulings should be based on those life experiences if they consisted of wrong choices. But to learn from them. And be exposed to real life experiences. In addition, that there may be other choices to be learned from those life experiences.
I thought the point of making bad decisions in life was to learn from them and realize a better decision is needed. And that is part of how life experiences are created.
