| Lewiston Maine counterprotest |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-22-09 01:30 PM by sandyd921
This is our counterprotest of local teabaggers. Our group had heard they were going to protest in front of Congressman Mike Michaud's office in downtown Lewiston Maine. However as it turned out we got there first; there were more of us than them (only 4 of them); we got way, way more honks and thumbs up (them: not so many); and we outlasted them by a half-hour (guess the heat got to those poor babies).

| 3. Protest on August 18 for Healthcare in Florida |
|
Vets for Peace just sponsored a demo for healthcare in Gainesville. Hot day with busy traffic and a healthy crowd showed up. We got lots of positive response from traffic (and a some fingers as well but less than 15%) Here is the link to our slide show: http://vfpgainesville.blogspot.com/2009/08/health-care-not-warfare-demo.html">Health care not warfare We are planning to do it again soon!

| 5. Proud Of Lewiston/Auburn Maine on Healthcare Support |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-22-09 05:27 PM by Dirigo
I am from Lewiston Maine and it was wonderful to see the beautiful Franco-American city turn out to support their Congressman and the President's Healthcare Reform plan. I fondly remember being involved in city democratic politics serving as a member of the police commission and attending the state democratic conventions. It is nice to see people who act like christians and support healthcare for everyone. Lewiston has two great hospitals CMMC and Ste Mary's as well as a Medevac helicopter. I was also a former Maine State Trooper in the same area during the late 60's and 70's. I am proud to identify with the beautiful people of Lewiston/Auburn in supporting Congressman Michaud and Senator Olympia Snowe who is only one of a precious two or three Republican senators supporting President Obama's heroic efforts to improve life for everyone. It would have been so embarrassing and such a black eye for the City of Lewiston and it's sister city Auburn across the Androscoggin River to have the know-nothing rightwing GOP teabaggers known down here in the Greater Washington DC Region as "those green teeth Neanderthal rapture Republican birthers out in public shouting down the Congressman, brandishing assault rifles and displaying loaded guns fanning the flames of ignorance repeating the numerous lies and myths about Healthcare as televised by Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and other rightwing cranks. It was reassuring to see that Republicans in Lewiston/Auburn are still civic minded, civil, have an interest in seeing legislation that advances the health and safety of the citizenry still exists in Lewiston even today. One of my dearest friends on the Lewiston Police Commission was the late Hal Gosselin who was an administrator of the CMMC and a devout Republican and one of the finest people as ever to walk the streets of Lewiston. Thank You Lewiston, America Owes You A Debt Of Gratitude for showing others what a city should look like and act like in these turbulent times.
LEWISTON MAINE I'll visit home in October.

| 7. Hi Dirigo - Afraid Olympia Snowe |
|
is not so supportive of health care reform (nor is Susan Collins for that matter). Go here and watch the video: http://www.dirigoblue.com/diary/185/snowe-we-have-not-had-the-public-option-on-the-table

| 8. Sen Snowe & Collins On Healthcare Public Option Element |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-22-09 07:34 PM by Dirigo
Sandy,
Olympia is guarded in her comment that "the public option has not been on the table". Isn't she right in part because it isn't. My understanding is that members are now talking about it and many people are now promoting that it should be part of the reform and it must be. To that, I am inclined to believe President Obama, et al, will finally cobble something that includes the public option and Olympia and Susan will be faced with one of two things: either they publicly support the finished product with the public option or stand against the State O'Maine and vote against their constituency's best interest and face an onslaught of criticism for the balance of their elected terms. This is just to important for either to fall back into the party fold that has little love for either one of them. Frankly, I strongly suspect both will vote for the President's bill to the angst and ire of the teabaggers, birthers, gun nuts, Freepers, beligerant imps that makes up the ignoramuses of the rank and file of the GOP. She was telephoned as was Susan Collins by President Obama who treats them with far more respect and courtesy than their own malignant denizens of the Reich wing suite of Bushbots. The Republicons I meet and know on the golf courses here in the greater DC area and in Florida tell me they can't stand Senators Snowe and Collins because they can't be counted on to tow the straitjacketed Rights Taliban policies. The House of Representatives are quite vocal and want a public option be included in the Senate version. Lets hope the Senate comes to its senses and does indeed follow the public demands and lets hope it is a Filibuster proof piece of legislation. It really is our best and final chance to take another giant leap for America For A Change! I am not sure all Democrats will support this needed legislation either and we may all have to UNELECT those bozo's in 2010 but we'll have to wait and see how these niggardly and cowardly acolytes of the health care insurance lobby and big pharma lobby respond to the Roll Call. We may be surprised, I hope, that Olympia and Susan will join the two Maine congressmen and we'll be retiring those spineless, AWOL, deserting their countrymen in the face of battle for a new breed. Sen Max Baucus of Montana who chairs the finance committee which Olympia is also working on is himself in deep doo doo by hesitating and gun shy about including the public option is already being booed, hissed, and howled at by Montana voters and could very well find himself DEFEATED. You know better than me, what's the people of Lewiston/Auburn telling you? These two women are in office and their votes are critical. Lets hope President Obama can persuade them to climb aboard to help the country and the president.
GOOD JOB for participating and possibly even marshalling the forces to show up with signs supporting Healthcare Reform! You all should be proud of yourselves. You did your city proud!!!
