| 1. Excellent presentation of a message the Senate needs to hear... |
Sen Gillibrand puts forth precisely what needs to be said, the Stupak amendment is discriminatory, it places 51+% of the population, into a separate and unequal situation. For far too long, women have been treated as second class citizens, this cannot stand any longer. Equality for all, no exceptions.

| 4. We women understand what is meant by the vague statement |
that lack of access to abortion as a part of health care endangers lives. But, the members of Congress who speak out on this need to move from the abstract to the concrete on this issue. They need to find women whose lives have been saved due to access to abortions. These women need to speak out. Discussing having had an abortion is a painful, embarrassing experience. But women whose lives have genuinely been saved, women who had abortions after rape, etc. need to step forward. They should have the right to maintain anonymity by speaking behind a curtain with altered voices, but they should speak publicly. And the senators and representatives in Congress need to use examples to back up their general statements. Many men just don't believe that women die in childbirth in this day and age or that abortion could save lives.
