I've finally figured out a solution to the Texas problem. It's a bit extreme but...

| 1. Something the Kat said.. |
|
At the end of the video the Kat said something that had gone completely over my head which proves, once more, that she is the more intelligent of the two of us.
She said people 'watched' certain things going on during the Civil War just like I suggested we watch the fun down in Texas. After reviewing the video my brain finally woke up and I realized what she was referring to.
During the first Battle of Bull Run civilians watched from a distance - many of them actually having picnic lunches during the battle. Almost 5,000 soldiers from both sides died during that battle. People casually watched while Americans were dying. Kind of sick, isn't it?

| 2. I've favored allowing any of the southern states to secede if they want. |
|
They act like they don't need any federal government (despite the fact that most of them take in more federal tax money than they pay out). I say, "Have at it!" But, keep in mind that when a hurricane or other disaster hits your state, don't expect any aid from the U.S. When those roads and bridges need repaired, don't look to Washington for help. You figure your own way to deal with your unemployment, low-income families, crumbling schools and other problems. With your disdain for taxes, I wouldn't think you'd have much of a treasury to draw from to tackle these problems. But hey! Hugo Chavez seems to be inclined to help other parts of the world (if you can stand the thought of taking assistance from a furner)!
Between the cutoff of dollars from the U.S. government, along with the fact that many of these states have the worst H.S. graduation rates and test scores, teen pregnancies, spousal abuses and other domestic problems, I figure these states would decline to third-world status within 10 years after secession.

| 3. Great summation of the entire mind set. |
|
You really nailed everything right on the head regarding them especially the incredible hypocrisy of pretending they could really go it alone. No one can go it alone - everyone has had a helping hand of some kind by someone else. This, as you put it so succinctly, includes states getting help from the Federal gov. from time to time.

| 4. Wrong. They could simply run on corporate money. |
|
Imagine a state full of ignorant people who need public services to be done. Corporations would do the Snoopy dance, bribe the republican heads of state and set up a price-gouging monopoly.
And what could the citizens do, to avoid being plundered? Nothing. They would have to concede that their and their leader's decision was wrong. But that means that they would have to consider going back to that pool of vice and socialism the US supposedly has turned into.
What is a better solution than conceding that your secession was wrong? IT'S SOMEBODY ELSE'S FAULT! Blame it on those "foreigners" from the US, on defectors and minorities. Et voilà, you get a nice patriotic witchhunt.
In the end you have a poor, corporate-run country, which relies on propaganda and "blaming-somebody-else" for political survival.
What for the next hurricane or tornado to strike and you will hear rightwingers throw in arguments how the US must help those patriotic traitors.

Thank you Eleanor! And I'm a great fan of your husband, FDR.
Okay, 'nuff of the smart aleck comments about your avator. Actually I AM a fan of FDR. I only hope that history will treat him even kinder than it has since it is now more evident, than ever before, how important his policies and philosophy were regarding our way of life.
