Cenk nails the War on Drugs BS in this video. Over 100 raids like these A DAY!! Because of a "neighbors tip." This guy probably had no more than $20 worth of weed in his house.

10. There are other even nastier undercurrents in that footage.

Those cops went in there prepared to kill, not in the sense that any cop has to be so prepared, but with no intent at all to attempt to subdue, anything resembling resistance was going to be met with deadly force from the get go. Chances are high that if that kid had come out swinging his baseball bat, to defend his dad, he'd be dead now. Tazers (whatever their drawbacks) were not at the ready here.

Perhaps someone should consider a show highlighting these types of raids to accompany shows like "Cops". All in the interest of equal time of course.


Now I love a good "Stupid Criminal" show, but seeing this highlights the existence of the footage we don't see. And the simple fact that never do we hear the Superintendant of Police respond to the leaking of such footage with: "Yes, I am fully aware of this matter and a review of the records shows that 3 officers were refered for criminal charges, 2 more fired, and another 3 subject to internal discipline." is entirely damning. No action is taken when a ballsup like this occurs UNTIL (and unless) there is sufficient public attention that "examples must be made" and even then all attempts at minimisation are attempted.

A few hours of observation, at a cost far less than that of the raid itself, would have determined the family situation here not to mention the presence of the dogs. And also the likelihood of the tipoff being accurate. Also give a feel for the size and type of any "operation" that migh be present. Visitor patterns will show if it's someone subsidising themselves or a more major seller worthy of a hard approach.

The race/profiling card could also do with some scrutiny here.

I could go on about how the ubiquity of (often unsecured) firearms in America makes this type of hard raid more the rule than the exception as is the case in most other First World nations.

I agree with Cenk that the most important thing is to address the bigger problem and end the war on drug users NOW! I totally disagree with his acceptance of the Gestapo tactics of the SWAT team. These guys are a bunch of cowboys that get all hyped up to go into somebodies house and raise hell. The whole 'they got the warrant because the neighbor narced' is right up there with the proverbial anonymous source that the cops like to use as an excuse to hassle somebody. As far as I'm concerned the neighbors accusation shouldn't even have been enough to get a warrant and therefore whoever the judge was that signed off on was a lazy ass as well. You will never convince me that with a little actual police work that the cops couldn't have determined what the situation was (man, woman, child, couple of dogs) and handled it differently. Gee, maybe something as simple as sending an undercover cop to the door with some excuse about looking for an address or something and trying to get a look into the house to see what the situation is before breaking in. As somebody else said a little surveillance would work too.

The cops and their supporters have done a very good propaganda job of making people think every drug dealer is highly armed, violent and will come out with guns blazing and numerous attack dogs to protect their stash. Not to say there aren't some real jerks dealing drugs especially when dealing with larger quantities or high value products but your basic neighborhood pot dealer is not looking to get themselves and their family killed over a couple of ounces of pot.

Absolutely no excuse for killing the family dog. Why not have an animal control person/cop that is padded enough to take on the dog while the other 12 cops take care of the people. Shooting the animals says to me that the attitude is 'I don't have time to deal with no damn animal so I'll just blow em away'.

These swat teams (100x a day!) barge into peoples homes, use deadly force with no provocation, and treat ordinary citizens like shit that is stuck to their boot. What is really happening here? It is just training (against the underclass) so that if Americans ever grow a spine and tell the government "no more, we deserve our freedoms and property just as much as the wealthy", the elites will already have a domestic, viscous enforcement tool. Just change the name from the war on drugs, to the war on terra (domestic non-violent citizens who demand parity). These assholes are trained to obey and destroy just as if they were empire building for the corptocracy. They'll kill the intellectuals, laugh and go have some beers, telling stories about their great bravery. They were "just following orders" will be their mantra should they ever be prosecuted for their atrocities. We desperately need movements like Dr. King led, and yes even the black panthers. They had daycare centers, fed the hungry and even though they fought violence with violence, they helped us win civil rights and worried the elites enough, that they declared a "war on poverty." That war doesn't need neanderthals with weapons killing you and/or your pets. Did they ever claim "mission accomplished" on that one?
