|
i applaud her stance on PRO CHOICE, because it is clearly too late for BARBARA to have W aborted

i always thought there was more to laura than being married to the chimp and she was always very vague about how she felt on many social issues. sometimes we can't control who we fall in love with.

| 11. Shortly into 2001 she said she would not have voted for GWB had she not been married to him... |
|
as she was reared a Democrat.
She was locked in a safe for about six months after that.
The only other first lady to say such a thing was Eleanor Roosevelt who admitted that had she not been married to FDR she would have voted for Norman Thomas.

| 15. Yep. Christie Whitman and Colin Powell were in 'time-out' chairs about the same time |
|
for saying 1) Clinton's policy on Korea was correct and 2)She (Whitman)supported CO2 controls.
They were all in time-out chairs the first six months of the administration.

The fact that she kept her mouth shut on these subjects until now just confirms my belief that she's a vacuous, hypocritical scumbag.

It takes no courage to speak out when you have nothing to lose. She's the same as every other politician who knew what the right thing to do was and instead chose to pander to the religious right.
A liberal is pro equal rights ALWAYS, not just when it's convenient to be so. Hence, neither she nor Obama nor Clinton are liberals.

| 28. gwb talked the talking points. i believe his position on choice |
|
and gay marriage was always more liberal but he needed to play act for the base. his poppy, who changed parties and became anti-choice for expediency, taught him that.
too little, too late, pickles.

Kudos to her for finally feeling free to speak her own mind.

| 21. She understands George's viewpoint, and so do I. His viewpoint |
|
is he will say and do anything for political purposes. Wonder what she thinks about George being Cheney's dupe? Does she respect George for snowballing us into war in Iraq and Afganistan and being a party to financially destroying this country? How in the world this woman can stand being around the jerk is beyond me.

I hope she's done some soul searching and realizes we are all entitled to control our own destinies, and not have strangers tell us what to do with OUR lives and bodies.

| 27. Neither the one nor the other I think. |
|
I think she had these beliefs for a long time but just couldn't be vocal about it. Some call it cowardly but she obviously thought it would undermine her husband. It's kind of sad though to keep quiet when unjust things happen. She seemed to struggle when trying to explain W's views. That sounded to me that despite what she said, she had no understanding for his opinions because it's kind of hard to find a rational argument for them when you clearly have opposing views. Who knows, maybe even W doesn't believe in it himself and just used it to get elected.
And to those who ask why we should care, I think it's beneficial to the discussion and for the future development whenever someone talks about these issues in a calm way, putting the emphasis on the humane side, which is more likely to make people think. Especially if it's someone who's connected to the "other side".

| 25. People who ridicule a person's physical characteristics are just as shallow as |
|
persons who are racist against another for their skin color, choice of life partner, or religious beliefs. No one is perfect and we are all equal...like it or not.
While you're busy dissing Laura, someone else is busy dissing you. What goes around comes around.
