Excellent interview. Very outspoken.

Couple of points:

Says nearly all institutions tend to be conservative with a small c. They don't want change or new direction.

Says he like to stir up institutions to try and find ways to change from inside that institution.

Young people demand change at once. His job as an older person is to figure out how much change is possible before people begin to leave. And he says sometimes they do have to leave. Says if you have a choice try to renew from inside the party. If used too often will destroy the party.

Everyone has lines they can't cross. If your party crosses that line you don't have to be with them. If you are public about it, maybe the party will think about what they are doing and do something different.

Says use the pivot to take the public conversation where you want it to go. When asked about abortion or rights of gays to marry for examples, turn the conversation back to jobs. Quit letting the right control the message. Ssys we always do this on the left. Answer the question they "should" have asked you, not the one they did ask.

Reiterates quit letting them set the agenda, and quit responding to them.

8. Howard Dean is wrong about people needing to push the politicians.

We choose people we want to lead us. We expect them to have ideas. We respond to those ideas. This whole thing about politicians following the voters is nonsense. Never worked that way. Never will.

Dean is falling for the excuses the Obama is making for failing to accomplish the change that he promised.

into choosing the candidates they want. Look at Obama. He is not at all the candidate I wanted in the first place. I worked for him and voted for him, and I am very unhappy with him. You can see from my avatar that I am a Roosevelt Democrat. Obama is a Reagan Democrat. Ughh.

20. I appreciate what he is saying, but the motivations behind the DLC

are clear, imo, they have had no problem with NAFTA, no problem with deregulating the banks, and no problem trying to bust
unions. Some of their efforts are not as blatant and sinister as the Republicans, but in the end those policies hurt most Americans.


I like Dean a great deal, but I honestly don't know what can likely change without the inclusion of public funded elections.

Does anyone else here wonder if Obama can reproduce the spirit of the 2008 election cycle?
