Sarah Palin protesters, tea party activists clash at CSU Stanislaus

TURLOCK -- Sarah Palin on Friday was the darling of a $500-a-plate dinner at California State University, Stanislaus. But outside the gala, a crowd of protesters memorialized her as "Bush in Lipstick," a "Liar, Quitter, Master Manipulator" and "Sinister Sarah."

"We'd rather have Tina Fey," read another sign referring to Palin's Saturday Night Live impersonator.

About 100 protesters with signs, banners and bullhorns snaked from a nearby park through campus, with news vans and clusters of reporters following closely.

"What's for dinner?" came a voice over a bullhorn, "Polar bear!" "Racist, sexist, anti-gay, Sarah Palin, go away," others chanted in unison.

The crowd of Palin protesters clashed with tea party activists at the university's entrance on Monte Vista Avenue, prompting heated arguments in the crosswalk as police tried to push people back using barricades. Drivers carrying patrons in tuxedos and evening gowns struggled to squeeze through the throng.

Palin and the former "first dude" are scheduled to be the celebrity guests at the annual "gala" thrown by Mary Lou Whitney, who's the doyenne of Saratoga racing. I used to see her and her late husband when I went to the track with my father, since he knew people and we always sat in a "box," but we're not exactly buds, LOL. BTW, she's got to be about 90 by now and is now married to a much younger gay guy. Really. I always thought that she was kind of entertaining, but my opinion has definitely taken a nosedive. :thumbsdown: :hi:

I just looked it up and apparently it's going to be a Breakfast at Tiffany's themed event. I just can't believe that anyaon thaes this woman seriously as a politician. "Celebrity guest"? Yeah, sure, fine. But as a real like actual political ficgure? YGBFKM!

The friend who alerted me to the Wasilla invasion said that the person who alerted him wanted to wangle an invitation just to throw things. Yikes!

There's always a crowd to gawk at Mary Lou and her celebrity buddies, Gary Collins comes to mind, LOL, but I think the tone will be much different this time around. Though this is traditionally Republican country, the district went heavily for Obama and MoveOn has a fairly strong presence here.

And I'd be willing to bet that poor Mary Lou, who probably thinks she's scored another coup, has no idea what trouble she may have unleashed. It'll be interesting to watch... :D :hi:
