She fought her cancer long enough to see Hate Crimes legislation signed into law and the President extend hospital visitation rights to same-sex couples, issues she mentions more than once in this speech from 2007. We knew she was sick and a beacon of light for survivors, nevertheless, it's still difficult knowing that she has passed. I will miss her and her unflinching support for the LGBT community.
