The UK is a democracy.
They just had an election, and this is who got voted in by the people.
So everyone has to abide by the choice they've made.
We can't have riots by select groups everytime the govt makes a decision. It's just not on.

| 45. "Upset" by Wikileaks? I am elated that undeniable evidence |
|
has been exposed! Wikileaks has provided a backdrop for civil unrest.
Please avail yourself of the mountains of material available to learn about the loss of freedoms U.S. citizens have endured since 2001 plus the lies put forward for two wars, the loss of lives, the growing economic gap between the classes, loss of jobs to Nafta,et.al., etc.,the destruction of labor unions, the failing education system, etc. THOSE are only some of the collective reasons people will end up on the streets. But, Wikileaks? "No".
Many, many have nothing more to lose by going to the streets and many more will go along because 1)of empathy for those who have lost so much and/or 2)of fear they, too, will lose all they've got. It will take longer in the U.S. due to the geological vastness and greater number of people. Unless the tide turns back in favor of 'average' Americans we will take to the streets. What I fear the most is not the people rebelling against the government but a civil war between the polarized factions.

| 21. You place too much emphasis on who the "people on here" are |
|
There are some people who, like I was back in the days of the war in Viet Nam, were not fully cognizant of "what's going on" until years later,
but surely, you aren't so naive to suppose it's democratic what is going on across Europe, with the United States not far behind... that the result of global financial terrorism (yes, terrorism is the correct word in my book) doesn't lead to this...
that the world banking system and their ability to bankrupt entire countries while pushing through austerity programs wouldn't find its way down to finally enrage the middle class by effectively squashing all but the the high wage earner to get into higher education.
I doubt that we in the US are as fed up... we are too corpulent and dull brained from Fox News and the fact we don't read. Right now, it's the canary in the coal mine. Open your eyes and quit assuming everybody's just engrossed in watching punks, getting high and saying "wow"...

| 28. Well educated are you Emily ? |
|
Read the Gulag Archipelago ? No - you have not. A popular revolution for and by the people led to 27 million dead. Familiar with German National Socialist Party ? In fact - Emily - are you familiar with your own stinking governments activities over the past couple of centuries - 13 million dead in India, 500,000 dead children in Iraq ? Was that VOTED FOR ? Elected - WTF ? Seriously what do you think democracy is - A FRACKING VOTE ? Are you serious- are you that naive that you think democracy is a vote and then silence ? A single ballot on day every four years ? Seriously.....
Democracy is self rule - got that. governance by the populace - everything. It is not an election and then some fracking free for all - how incredibly naive and stupid can you get.
Democracy is about representation, about community involvement, legislating to represent the ethics, morals, zeitgeist and will of the populace - not - absolutely NOT self interested political parties serving their own interests - go and read and educate yourself. Democracy is self rule and governance by the people - ALL THE TIME - not some of the time, not when it suits, and absolutely NOT to force people to endure absolutely ridiculous legislation because they VOTED for a party - that is simply the most distilled, simplistic, mis-reading of democracy i have ever, ever read. Go and Read John Keenes teh History of Democracy - he is was the head of the Centre for the Study of Democracy at Westminster University London - he knows what hes talking about, hes from your country and I think - I think Emily that one vote every fours years is about as far removed from what DEMOCRACY is as you can get.
Seriously - embarrassing.

And the US isn't the Soviet Union. Neither is the UK.
You vote at election time. You don't get to remake the entire system, according to your current views, every week...because you can't run a country that way.
A bunch of middle and upper-middle class kids in England, intermingled with the violent Black Bloc, Trots and general anarchists wrecking and burning things, and looting shops, is not a revolution.
Yes, you are seriously embarrassing yourself.

EmilyKent is presenting archetypal defeated prol view that the ruling banksters love! Yes it is sad, and even more pathetic. Having no idea what democracy is, perhaps EmilyKent should not spout gibberish like "You voted, now sit down an take it", while the Thieving banksters rob you and your children by piling on debt for the monies they stole,. Corporate banksters are systematically taking resources that belong to all of us; privatizing all gains and socializing losses,.. is that democracy? If you really think so you are truly dead.

we won our independence in my 2 nations by revolting against the established powers, in the usa the boston tea party is an example of this, in france the terror is an example. the liberal dems did not present themselves as the party that would triple tuition prices, one could expect the torries to do that, but not the liberal dems... why does england charge people money and seek to make profit off of having an educated population? while in scotland universities are free for all but the english....

who create the problems that lead to riot and revolution want you to say. They spend millions on media to convince you that its the protesters who are the problem. In the early sixties, television was full of the "riots" caused by those commie negroes in the south. We have all seen the video of the fire hoses and billy clubs. But at the time, much of the commentary that was voiced over those pictures praised the hosers and clubbers for helping to put down those lawless radicals having their tantrum.
Same as it ever was.

What will we do without Social Security? They already took most of our other safety nets away starting back with Reagan. I cannot believe people who have been out of work so long that their unemployment benefits have run out cannot get welfare. How long are we to suffer so that the superrich can enjoy excess luxuries?
Also, that our government leaders are still using that tired old line about how if the rich live tax free, then we will see jobs created. What total bullshit.

It just depends on how long it takes before it's citizens reach "that point". And those here in power know this and usually try to push it right up until "that point'. Unfortunately decades of TV/RW talk radio has raised that point way higher than it should be. But we also now have those in power who (for whatever reason) eventually will push it past that point. And that's when you start to see some real change happen.

| 56. Unfortunately, the gun owners tend to be authoritarians |
|
And they listen to Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and FOX News.
In our last revolution the authoritarians worshipped the king. So that just worked out fine for us, since the king was on the other side of the ocean, and the revolutionaries didn't have to compromise with the crazy authoritarians who were on the other side.
Perhaps a revolution wouldn't work out so fine this time, though we're really a long way from that now.

was anyone else awed by the footage? The camera angle was great....to watch the motion of the forces... almost like something you see in movies. Except it was obviously very real. The way the crowd parted when police on horses rode through. Pretty amazing.
Anyone know who shot it?
