2004: Aransas County Court-At-Law Judge William Adams took a belt to his own teenage daughter as punishment for using the internet to acquire music and games that were unavailable for legal purchase at the time. She has had ataxic cerebral palsy from birth that led her to a passion for technology, which was strictly forbidden by her father's backwards views. The judge's wife was emotionally abused herself and was severely manipulated into assisting the beating and should not be blamed for any content in this video. The judge's wife has since left the marriage due to the abuse, which continues to this day, and has sincerely apologized and repented for her part and for allowing such a thing, long before this video was even revealed to exist. Judge William Adams is not fit to be anywhere near the law system if he can't even exercise fit judgement as a parent himself. Do not allow this man to ever be re-elected again. Though the video was uploaded on October 27, it wasn't until today that it began to receive attention—thanks to the popular link-sharing site Reddit, where a poster identifying herself as Hillary Adams shared it (with the title "Family law judge beats own daughter for using the internet, please spread"), writing that she'd decided to post the video (which she'd been "holding onto... until the right time") after receiving "a barrage of harassment" from her father over the phone.

Posting to Reddit was the right move. The site, which has a strong protective streak, quickly sprung into action. Posters, encouraging others to call and write, provided links and phone numbers to news outlets, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, the State Commission on Judicial Conduct—and to the judge's place of work. As is not uncommon in situations like this, the official Aransas County website is down as of this post, likely thanks to heavy traffic from Reddit.

7. I agree regarding the mother

Not only did she fail to protect her child but she even joined in on the abuse. And if I'm reading the YouTube description correctly, "the mother has left the marriage" but then goes on to say that the abuse (of the daughter?) "continues". I'm assuming that means that the mother did not take the daughter w/her when she left?

This whole thing makes me sick. I really hope that the father (and mother) will face some serious repercussions for their actions. That was an assault, not "discipline". :grr:

On edit: it appears that the daughter herself uploaded the video and provided the description which attempted to exonerate the mother. I don't know what kind of relationship the daughter has w/her mother, but I wouldn't be a bit surprised if she is in denial about her mother's role in this. The whole thing is so sad.

25. It appeared, to me, the mother was trying to mitigate the damage.

At the beginning of the video, she states she "already spanked her" and during the beating, she gives the daughter one whack and tries to end it but "dad" continues anyway.

That seems like a textbook case of TWO victims here.

With those observations AND the, now adult, daughter's statement, I'm willing to cut mom some slack. But I'm sure the "shoulda, woulda, coulda" brigade will want to string mom up by her thumbs.

It was a little thing that I noticed, but I noticed it. She repeatedly
refuses to turn over on her stomach, as that cowardly piece of shit commands.

She doesn't ever end up doing it to the extent that he wants her to.

That's her way of maintaining some kind of control. She's not giving up all
of her power. I was abused, and I understand nuance like this.

Something else that bothered me. At the end, the mother comes in and tells her
that she is sleeping on the couch tonight. This really bothers me. Is this
so her father can sexually abuse her? Seriously. Did I hear something wrong?

When the two "parents" leave the room, you can hear him saying something---that's when
the mother comes in and tells her that she's sleeping on the couch. He was in a fit
of rage--all amped up from beating her.

So, with the father still in a rage, he insists that she is to sleep on the couch?

One in four girls is sexually abused before the age of 18. For a parent and a father to act
this way toward a disabled teenager--puts her at high risk for sexual abuse. Sexual abuse
is an act of rage and anger. I really hope social services gets involved and conducts
an investigation.

The mother is also said to have been an abuse victim. Typically, this is the family
dynamic that perpetuates sexual abuse. The male needs a traumatized mother, who is
unable to protect her daughter. She still is in the victim role.

I wish I didn't understand this kind of abuse, and the hell that it is. But I do.

I see red flags all over the place. This is really sad, but I am glad that this video
is out for the world to see. This man deserves prison time.

On Reddit she is asked about her younger sister, who would be 14-15 now, but I haven't seen a response from her about that.

I'm anxious to see if this is picked up by all the media it has been sent to and what Daddy Dearest has to say for himself.

It's unclear whether or not he is still abusing her (the girl in the video) or if he is abusing his younger daughter.

This is pretty typical of abuse and trauma victims. They rarely stand up for themselves while they are young
and living with the abuser. Their minds can't "go there". They basically just survive, emotionally curled up
in a fetal position.

This woman is out of the house and is no longer under the power and control of her father. She's had a few
years to process the abuse and get her bearings.

I noticed in the video--that she continued to disobey him by refusing to get on her stomach so he could abuse
her on her bottom. She was defiant then, and he was a myopic, ignorant toad to assume that she would never
speak out.

This man, after all, is not just a judge--he is a family-court judge. How sick would that be, to spend your entire
life knowing that your father was powerful and made daily decisions about families in peril and also about abusers?
I'm sure he held his status and position over her head.

This piece of shit abuser deserves everything that his happening to him. After all, the daughter only disclosed the truth.
I applaud her for releasing it and for being so brave. So many abusers continue to live under the spell of the abuser--and
they never process or get through the stages of grief about their childhood. They just continue the cycle of abuse.

This girl should be commended and supported every step of the way--even if people don't quite understand the situation.

Victims suffering from mental health complications of abuse are taught to use avoidance of phenomena that trigger flashbacks and distress. By including the warning you gave them a chance to do that.
