| 3. "We're just going to have to go without turkey this year." |
|
If they were talking about the turkeys in Congress, I'd be all for that idea.
Meanwhile, 14.5% of Americans can't put dinner on their tables every night. That's disgusting. And what's the government doing about it? Nothing. Sick.

| 6. Could have been my family. And we did not vote rethug. I think what |
|
made the 50s special to the rethugs was not that they were happy being poor. One thing that was going on back then was the economy was growing - farmers were getting bigger farms at the expense of their poorer neighbors, families were heading for California to take advantage of the new jobs out there. Things were good for some and the rest were invisible. No one understood that we did not have enough food to eat on most days let alone Thanksgiving. And yes I washed dishes in the school cafeteria in order to pay for my brother and my hot lunches. I was in 5th grade and there were no free lunches.
One of the events I remember to this day was the night that we were at the dinner table with only spaghetti and eggs to eat when our rich neighbor knocked on the door. He was collecting for Crop a program to feed hungry people around the world. My father was embarrassed because he could not give. But after they left he got extremely angry. And I do not blame him. I actually do not like this neighbor to this day.

hungry. The nonprofit Feeding America, a network of more than 200 food banks around the United States, reports one in five children are at risk of hunger. For children in African-American or Latino households, it's closer to one in three. http://www.cnn.com/2011/11/23/us/cnnheroes-hungry-children/index.html?hpt=hp_bn2
