I agree and am sure glad I heard the whole video, it adds more nails to all pretense that Obama is a democrat. He would be better running on the republican ticket. Obama praises Reagans "new direction" was he thinking of the controllers he fired? Or was he thinking of the sales tax he raised in california? Obama downplays and minimizes the real heros of the 60's, the anti war protestors trying to lump in them in with the "love ins" of the 60's, as if thats what the radical movement of the 60's was all about. The Black, Chicano, and women liberation movement resulted more from activism from the leftist leaders not from those that attacked them like Reagan did. YouTube speech, if one reads it as a critical thinkers is an appeal to republicans that he is their man, their leader. Jesse Jackson, Maxine Waters, and a host of other Black polticians would be more credible. And I am not a Hilary supporter, either, but that would be a different topic. Frank c

| 2. Swing Districts??? How about Democratic swing districts in IL in 2006? |
|
Obama campaigned in a democratic contest, Cegallis and Duckworth in IL. Cegallis and true democrat was doing well and winning, and the 'machine' brought in duckworth, Obama showed up to speak for the machine, as a boost to the camp at the end...they poured an incredible amount of money in to her campaign to run against their own winner Cegallis, sad to say Cegallis was a true progressive, speaking much of the rhetoric that Obama's campaign is speaking truth to power on now. What upsets me about hearing him here he contributed to ousting one of his own, and played the part of a tool of the DLC, Rham's tool to oust a proud progressive who was leading candidate. Why? Because Duckworth was the example of the horror of the Iraq war, a wounded patriot. The sad thing is this was a power play on the DLC's part, an effort to display our patriotism, and in the same play pouring an incredible amount of money to beat someone who was already a winner in the race, talk about killing your own. This was after he said he would not campaign against his own, but Rham must have had some pull. I will never forget that. I like Obama, but he did not just campaign against heated campaigns against repubs in 2006, he was a tool for Rham. And it still pisses me off today. Such is politics I suppose.

|
I was there when Obama came in to campaign for Duckworth on the day before the election. I do not recall if he campaigned for her during the primary. I do know that Rahm and Durbin were instrumental in getting Duckworth to run against Cegelis.

| 7. Of course, people are interested in context. |
|
The stripped down sound bite posted earlier today on another thread received several calls arguing context matters. "I don't think anyone here is interested in context." is just a fraudulent statement. Emotions are high is the only explanation I have for being on the outside looking in at what looks like a Hillary vs. Obama supporter deathmatch. This is another reason why these two Senators supporters are really turning me off to their candidates' messages. There is a risk all this fighting between the two camps of supporters is going to end up throwing the nomination to Edwards which is perfectly fine with me. May the best candidate win.

Are people calling Obama like a traitor to Dems or something now? If people are actually angered by anything there than they really need to get a grip.

posted earlier today edited with the sure hand of a propagandist. In addition that piece was titled something like Obama thinks Reagan was a better president than Clinton, anyway, that was the gist of it. It was an entirely bogus piece. I like the PEZ picture, it's a keeper.

He needs to talk to some of us who lived through the '60s. And, as for the Republicans starting to sound like him -- yeah! Just wait till they start to swift-boat him and then play the nice guys and cry when he starts to fight back.
Reagan's changes -- his "moving away from the excesses of the '60s and '70s" made millions of homeless people, many of them mentally ill, on the streets. Before that time, we had hoboes and hippies, but society took care of them. Johnson made sure of that. Reagan just cut all the mentally ill off without a dime and without mental health care. And Obama seems to think that Reagan was OK.
And, by the way, it was Gore, not Reagan who made government smaller. Obama does not know his history. I suspect he was raised in a household that was either Republican or "Reagan Democrats." Maybe it was that private school he attended in Hawaii that made him think Reagan was such a great guy and such a great innovator and idea man.
Obama needs to grow up a bit. He also needs to become a Democrat and stop glorifying the Republicans like Reagan, Romney, etc. I am very disappointed in him. He is a fool -- an intellectual fool, but a fool all the same.

Let's review Obama... VERY strong supporter of Joe Lieberman. Supremely corporate friendly. Supporter of Ronald Reagan. Not Gay-friendly (supports conversion foolishness). Non-progressive tax stance. Conservative to the core. Add not very smart at history. Is being "black" all that this guy has going for him?
Are we going down a road that has failed us before? He sounds like Kerry. Lieberman is basically Obama, only Jewish. Hillary is basically Obama, only female.
Is the only true progressive a white male? If John were a black female, he'd be unstoppable!

AP JUNE 2007 - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama laid out list of political shortcomings he sees in the Bush administration but said he opposes
impeachment for either President George W. Bush or Vice President Dick Cheney. . . "I think you reserve impeachment for grave, grave breeches, and intentional
breeches of the president's authority," he said. Seemed to be a man of the people, but then he's involved in shady real estate deals. Who knows. But then I learn his wife is a director in the Chicago CFR, or
whatever they call themselves these days. The CFR is one of the most anti-American groups that exist(Dick Cheney is also a member , as most of them are. Them
being crooked politicians who stop at nothing to sell us out). Then, the kicker, Zbigniew Brzezinski, is one of Barack Obama’s national security advisers! This guy is practically the architect of our middle east mess. Read his
book "The Grand Chessboard", he lays out the whole plan right there, AND he wrote it in 1998. So Obama, who is supposedly anti-war, is aligned with one of the most hawkish guys out there. How does this benefit blacks or whites or anyone who isn't an elite.

| 13. Obama is an idiot if he thinks that we have forgotten the 80's |
|
Some things that I recall are heartbreaking stories of seniors having to choose between their medicine and food, which began again under the present regime. I personally witnessed old people "dumpster-diving" at supermarkets while repairing and washing supermarket's shopping carts for the company I worked for. We saw old people on the TV telling their sad stories about eating canned cat food because it was either that or freezing to death if they did not pay their heating bills. Obama has no fucking clue, NONE.

He is talking about the climate in the 1980 ELECTION YEAR. He is not talking about what Reagan did in his 8 years, he is talking about the climate that swept him into power. Morning in America and all that. Yes it was bullshit but it was a new direction (for the bad).
He also said that that stuff (taxcuts) did not work.

| 22. "excesses of the '60s and '70s" That is Obama's language. |
|
Obama does not understand the history of those years if he speaks of Reagan responding to the excesses of that time.
What excesses is he talking about -- the assassination of Martin Luther King? the assassination of Robert Kennedy? the assassination of John F. Kennedy? the machinations of the CIA? the Nixon Watergate scandal? the impeachment hearings? I could go on and on. Reagan was the culmination of the right-wing extremism of the '60s and '70s. Democrats -- loyal Americans -- were harassed under the McCarthy era and MURDERED in the '60s and '70s.
And Obama wants to compromise with the people who have profited from those murders. That is the excess that I object to. What excesses does Obama object to?

Out of respect to the Obamites in this positive Obama thread I won't post any quotes. Here are the pages Reagan appears on in his book. 31-33, 36, 43, 147, 156-58, 181-82, 201, 209, 288-289, 293.
