| 1. This phrase has me bothered: |
|
"Those who ... support his defeat in the 2012 presidential election (in primaries or the general election)...are not welcome in the Barack Obama Group."
Shouldn't those who support his defeat in the 2012 general election also not be welcome in DU?

The reason I added the "or general election" part was just to make it abundantly clear that BOG is for supporters and supporters only. Anyone else can make their own group.
I actually went and looked at the other groups and modeled it on their mission statements, mainly the Hillary group's, the Kucinich group's, and the Edwards group's.
"the rest of DU will have to figure out what their Mission Statement is" Amen :applause:

Yes, it's nice to have the mission statement clarified here. That's the good.
The implication that this site welcomes those who will wish for and work for the Democratic President's removal from office is baffling and seems contrary to the purpose of the site. Or, did I misinterpret the meaning of Democratic in "Democratic Underground." I thought it referred to the Democratic Party. I see I was wrong and it refers to those in support of social equality. That is the bad because I realize I am still in search of a site that is in SUPPORT of this President and the Democratic Party platform.

I agree with you, DU has always been a site where Democrats could gather and even if we disagreed one some issues, we were still all Democrats, or at least perhaps independents who supported Dem candidates. Even during the primaries, heated as that may have been, we were all Democrats.
It's disheartening to have to move to a small corner of the website. I mean, we aren't talking about some primary candidate here, we are supporting the Democratic president -- hasn't that been the goal of DU since its founding? Support all Dem candidates, sure -- But I always felt getting the White House was the ultimate goal and we got there! Yet now one cannot support Democrats without being flamed and attacked.
But welcome to DU ... and the BOG :hi: Stick around here for a while, this group is only going to grow, hopefully we'll only need to be here for a short while until things "settle down" - if they do.

the DU mission statement makes it clear that DU is not affiliated with the Democratic Party, so I think we may be on our own on this. Like others, I will be here until my star runs out. Maybe by then things will be back to normal but if not, the site may become just another FR. I hope not.

I'm guessing that this part.. "support his defeat in the 2012 presidential election (in primaries or the general election), or who are generally supportive of those who do, are not welcome in the Barack Obama Group."..
"In the general election" means right now and when the general actual comes that DU will still support the Democrat(President Obama if all goes well) over the fucking republicon.

much for those (DU was toxic for a very long time), but during the primaries of 2004, Skinner had very specific guidelines for these groups.
It's strange, though. This isn't primary time. I'm glad he did what he did, believe me, but the fact that he had to do it is a bit disappointing.
