What's With Chris Matthews' Alarmism Over 2 Democratic Senators Retiring?

BFD. Dodd's going to be replaced by another solid liberal (not saying progressive any more) and Dorgan was an iffy proposition anyway. The Republicans have fewer Senators and they're losing 6 to retirement and their brand is in the toilet and they're busy trying to split their party and spread discontent. Yeah, some of ours are doing that too but at the end of the day I don't think they will be a factor, whereas the "conservative" wingnuts and their intellectual incoherence is heart and soul of the Republican Party.

Too early to sound any alarm bells. So why do it?
