Obamas at SOME Soup Kitchen

Guests of the So Others Might Eat (SOME) dining hall got a surprise today when they were served by The First Family as part of the Martin Luther King Day of Service initiative, “a day ON, not a day OFF.” Mrs. Obama poured coffee with daughter Sasha, while Mrs. Robinson and Malia refilled guests’ plates from platters of barbecued chicken, potato salad, and cornbread. Lively jazz played in the background of the brick basement as over 150 guests dined.

The President took photos with volunteers before walking along the tables and shaking hands with guests. He then returned to an assembly area, exclaiming “All right, let’s go to work, I’m ready!” The President passed out paper plates of food to a line of men, shook their hands, greeted each with “How are you, sir?” and “Good to see you.”
