Just been reading a few threads here past day or so.

About the VPN, it could do something about that, if you have access to a VPN that gives you an American IP address.

You ("furrin" IP) ----> VPN (IP in Los Angeles) ---> Website

The website thinks your location is LA.

It just so happens I have access to one I could let you access temporarily, long enough for the Hulu video anyway.

OnEdit: I assume you're using Windows or a MAC. I know less than nothing about setting up a VPN connection on a MAC and only tidbits of doing it on a Windows machine, so I can't offer real tech support. If it works, it works. If not, I have no idea.

The problem she's having is that Hulu, through an agreement with the media companies, blocks access to their content to people without US IP addresses.

And Hulu has found the magic formula for obfuscating the real URL to the video file itself so that it's hard to find. If I had the real URL, I could just stream rip it like with Youtube video. I could throw a packet sniffer at it and get the URL, eventually, but I haven't gotten that desperate yet.

Anyway ... this is one of those things that feeds my obsessive/compulsive gene. I have a project I have to figure out now. Just ignore me. I'm mostly harmless. :)

It's kinda clunky, but I decided to get creative rather than screw around.

It's actually a screen-cap of a portion of my browser window. The quality isn't 100% of the original, but it's definitely watchable. Sound quality was better than I expected.

I encoded it as an AVI (DivX) file and uploaded it to my server. (I don't want to upload it to YouTube 'cause it'll just get taken down quickly and get me another "video deleted" black mark on my account.) Depending on how you have your browser configured, it will either stream when you click the link to it or give you the option to download. Either should work.

The link is in a PM I'm about to send you. Please don't pass it around as this is my personal server space, and I don't have just loads of bandwidth to spare. If anyone else here wants it, shoot me a PM, and I'll give you the link.

Whatever he calls himself, he gets it right on politics about 80% of the time. He had his little dance with the devil a few years ago, but I don't think that will ever happen to him again. I wish he'd have the same awakening with his Christianity, ugh, that gets old sometimes but I only see that part of him when he's on Maher.

a little off topic but talking about Palin 3 weeks after she was picked on Maher's show.

I started reading Sullivan in 2002 when other blogs linked to posts he made when he was outraged about the GOP and torture and gay issues. I read him nearly every day from 2004 on. Yes, his religion bugs me but I just skip over his posts on religion and to give him credit, he hates religion's invasion of the GOP and trashes it often. But yes, he's a much easier read these days than Jane or Huffington or Kos or any of the other Obama haters out there.

Another one like that is Balloon-Juice. John Cole was a republican too but the Terry Schiavo case put him over the edge.

Odd, now that I think about it, 2 of the 3 "democratic" blogs I read every day are written by ppl who were republicans 5 years ago. I think I was attracted because I'm interested in what makes ppl change parties and I am repulsed by the lack of loyalty of the progressives. Not sure what else it means.

I had meant to re-register independent (or as it is known here in West Virginia, “No Party Affiliation”) for the past two weeks after I had finally had enough of the bullshit during the Graeme Frost escapade, but never got around to it (and it really was not that big of a deal, I had made the mental commitment, which is what matters). I had to pick up a registered letter for an unrelated issue, so I went to the Court House to the Voter Registration Office.

I had intended to register independent, but when I got there to do it, I had a moment of clarity- there seemed to be no point leaving the Republican party in protest and joining the unwashed masses. If I really was going to protest, it made no sense to not commit to the opposition party. Besides, as a Republican all these years, I never had any problem voting for libertarians, Democrats, etc., I don’t see why being a Democrat will change anything. And, the 2008 election really is the most important election of my lifetime- the basic foundation of our country has been under assault for a while, now, and I want to vote in the Democratic primary as a Democrat, not as someone with no party affiliation. I want to send a message, and as small as this gesture (which should appropriately be interpreted as a middle finger to the GOP and not as a sloppy wet kiss to Nancy Pelosi) is, I want it to mean as much as possible. There is now one less Republican in WV, and one more Democrat.

Long story short, I got up there to register as an independent, said “Fuck it,” and now I am a Democrat. I certainly don’t agree with all their positions, but they are not bat-shit crazy like the GOP. That has to count for something. Additionally, I no longer have to read posts by the 24% crowd calling me a “true conservative” with quotes o’sarcasm (you know who they are). Not any more, bitches. I repudiate you, your party, and whatever the fuck it is you are currently pretending is “conservatism.” It isn’t.

Now send me my check from Soros and the 40 virgins.
