| 5. The Obama administration |

asked for cameras in the pit. That was a brilliant strategy. After the Q&A a member of the GOP said it was a mistake to allow cameras. The president kicked butt.

| 4. I LOVED how he didn't let them get away with ANYTHING. Favorite bits: |
|
Paraphrasing - some of my favorite bits were:
We're worried about our job security, the American people want us to worry about their job security
Talking crazy nonsense to your constituents about me doesn't leave you any room to negotiate with me or the House or Senate leadership, and because you've talked so much nonsense, if you're seen by your constituents as being receptive to working with Democrats, they'll vote you out. So, now what choice do you have but to vote no on everything.
You keep saying you have better solutions and great ideas, but your ideas don't meet the test of reality. Political assertions don't equal actual solutions. Don't come to me with the kind of ideas, that when examined by CBO and experts, don't actually solve or even address the problem. I'm open to tort reform, but that only goes so far, so what else you got.
From the way you presented HCR, people think it's some kind of Bolshevik plot. Many of the same ideas in this HCR are the ones two of your own icons presented to Bill Clinton when he was trying to do healthcare, now you call these same ideas "radical."
We came into office with $1.3 trillion deficit created by Bushco. Two wars weren't paid for. Medicare expansion wasn't paid for. $3 trillion in revenue was lost due to the recession. Now, you're going to worry about what will happen to the children? After your party created all this deficit? You've got to be kidding.
I could go on and on! Pres. Obama was absolutely amazing.

I wasn't able to watch it. Was it dead silence? Nervous laughs?

To sum up how they responded -- for the most part, like college kids with a very engaging, but stern professor -- there was laughter, but with him, for the most part, titters (but he called them on those), whining (that was mostly during the one-on-one Q&A), and genuine applause for some of what he said.
For the most part, though, there was stunned silence as it seemed to dawn on the GOP that though this sounded like a good idea at the time, it had turned horribly, horribly wrong for them as the entire country got to witness them in all their petty, arrogant glory, and the president at his smartest, funniest, most knowledgeable, and real, best.

..this sounded like a good idea at the time.. It sounds like something they're saying to each other right now lol.
I assume they figured that they might have him 'on the run' when they issued the invitation. It seems hard for people on both sides of the aisle to realize that the fact that he has no great ego-need to be reflexively disrespectful to those who disagree or dislike him, does not mean that he is weak or naive or someone's 'puppet'.
