Du member rebel with a cause has passed away

I don't know if it's appropriate to post this here, but I think she spent a good deal of her time on the DU in this group. I'm going to cross post this in the Lounge. I'm not sure if I should post in General Discussion or not.

She died Friday January 22 at her home from cardiac arrest. I know this because she was my mother. I probably should have posted this sooner, but I just couldn't build up the courage. It's almost like typing this right now makes it more real and final.

She had been suffering from congestive heart failure for the past few years and recently had been having some trouble breathing, but I didn't anticipate that she would be going so soon. The DU community has been a real distraction for her from her health problems. She didn't get out of the house as much as she used to, so she would spend her time reading the latest news and chatting with all of you. I think she spent most of her time in the Barack Obama group and in the Lounge.

There were times when she would get frustrated with the way discussions were going on the site, but she stayed on until the very end. I've searched DU for things she's posted recently, but I can only read so many before it's too painful.

So please appreciate the ones you love while you have them with you. My brother and I loved her dearly and she knew that. There's never been a minute that we doubted her love.

Thanks to all on the DU who have been kind to her, and if you could, please wish her peace.

She recently shared her Masters thesis with me, and I only finished reading it last week. She added a great deal of knowledge to my life in the very short time I knew her.

19. She did ...

She referred to it in a discussion we were having, and I got all exciting about the subject matter because when I was in college the subject matter was difficult to study due to a lack of trained professors. Yet, it's always interested me.

I know my feelings of loss cannot in any way compare to yours, but I do feel it. There were several things I wanted to discuss with her about her thesis, but I put off asking about them due to "time."

She had some interesting insights, and I will treasure the fact she shared her writing with me. Your mom was a smart individual.

I felt like she was my cyber buddy.. She told us she was hanging in there but had a lot os scary health challenges.

We should take up a collection for flowers, unless that is something she really detested. We could make donations to her favorite charity. I am a flower person, but I know some aren't. Whatever you think.

The charity donation would be better. She was cremated, and we have all the flowers here with us.

If you'd like to make a small donation to a charity for her, you could give to either the Humane Society or ASPCA or another animal charity of your choice.

She loved animals. Our two doggies are missing her.
