I had to hurry back to BOG because the DU Den is real busy bashing her efforts to improve the quality of life for our children.

be universally popular. People love their junk food.
I totally agree with her aspirations on this but it won't be easy. There must be tons of evidence to make her think this would be a worthwhile endeavor, though.
It's logical..junk food is not good for our bodies and brains..kids need good foundations in life.
Good Luck getting the Changes for this to happen.

| 4. When you talk about healthy food choice- people see it as attacking them personally. |
|
When you talk about obesity- people who are overweight (and a lot of people are now) think you are attacking them personally.
And on DU when you talk about bringing food grocers into poor neighborhoods you get the complaint she isn't fighting poverty.
The icing on the cake?
The complaint she isn't taking on government subsidies to corn farmers.

I just read some of the post and all the negative comments are pretty unbelievable. That just goes to show that anything "OBAMA" is negative coming from them. Now if Howard Dean, Grayson, Kucinich, even their wives had said the same thing it would be all good.
Disgusting and screw them. The First Lady speaks for me.

I can understand maybe an initial reaction of "Keep your hands out of my refrigerator," but with a little more thought, people might realize that obesity is a MAJOR problem in this country. And the problem really isn't with being a big person (i.e. I doubt Michelle is judging overweight people based on their looks); it's the health issues that arise from obesity.
I am a good example. My weight had really crept up, and my cholesterol has always been a bit high. Well, about 4 months ago, I had some blood work done, and my triglycerides were through the roof, my bad cholesterol was high, and my good cholesterol was too low. I did start taking some medication for that, but I also changed my diet to really lower my carb intake. I've lost a pretty good amount of weight, and even better, the triglycerides and bad cholesterol numbers have gone down significantly, and the good cholesterol numbers have gone up.
I didn't have to give up foods I liked; I just moderated my intake of them, and increased my intake of foods that are more healthy for me. I feel better, I weigh less, AND Michele Obama wasn't anywhere around, shaking her finger at me and telling me I had to eat sawdust to be healthy.
People can be so extreme sometimes. :eyes:

I cannot believe the foolishness that I'm reading. People screaming that Michelle should be focusing on jobs! What the hell can the First Lady do about jobs, at least publicly?? What the hell are these idiots going on about??
And then the ENDLESS screaming about how "poor people can't afford to eat well" and she's "lecturing people" on eating right when they're "losing their jobs." My God. Who shifted the debate to only "poor people?" Michelle Obama didn't. Michelle Obama is addressing ALL Americans. Is it because she's black that some here think that her primary focus should be on poor people?? When the hell did simply trying to EDUCATE people on the benefits of healthy eating become some sort of anti-poor platform?? Since them uppity Obamas started talking about it???
And these people truly expect for me to believe that their cries show genuine concern for the poor and are not just another excuse to try to blame and condemn the Obamas over absolutely NOTHING once again?? Yeah, I'm falling for that.

This is a very serious issue. As an educator and a supporter of the NFL's Play 60 program, you see a child or two (or more) that is obese and in need of exercise aka P.E., recess, and healthier eating habits (they no longer have drink/snack machines in our school district. :)).
Therefore, I am glad to see her taking on this issue. Hope she can also have an influence on other policy issues. They should use her there more often. :)
On edit, haven't seen the attack thread, but it's not suprising. :(

an exceptional woman and to be commended for her efforts. I read the negative comments in big board land, and found myself shaking my head. How the hell people can turn her into a negative is beyond me. I sensed a lot of self loathing.
