Not even close. When I read comments that President Obama is "a fucking coward" or has "rolled over for his corporate masters", I try and remind myself that overall, Democratic approval of the President is very high and that only a very small, but vocal, minority of Dems have an unfavorable opinion of him. His base, the rank and file Democrats, is solid.
DU is valuable in regards to keeping up with current events and the occasional insightful commentary on them. I also enjoy the Lounge for the comic interactions that take place there.

activism with kindred spirits who are dedicated in helping make the President and his Team a successful one for our country.
Nobody I know in my life is as politically oriented as I am(okay, that's the understatement of the year)..they all have other goals in their lives to keep them very busy but this happens to be my passion right now and for the last freaking 10 years..only 8 on DU(almost). Geeze! But, what better cause than your country and oh, incidently, the Planet in this day and age?

| 2. Most people I know have little interest in politics. |
|
They are occupied with paying the bills, family, friends and their hobbies. I come here to DU for political discourse and to take a break from discussing who had a baby, who died, which couple are in the process of a divorce, who is getting married, the weather, sports and so on. Interest does pick up in a presidential election year but quickly dies after election day until the next election cycle.
The rage I see expressed here at DU I do not see in my everyday life.

I don't give two fucks what gets posted at DU about the President, nor do I really care about his approval ratings among Dems or any other demographic. He got my vote and some money last time around, and he will next time around, and my personal approval rating of his job performance, despite a few misgivings, remains high. He's the right person for the job and anybody else shows me nothing.
And DU, which for years was an absolute godsend for me in a very dark era of our nation's history, is no longer of much value any which way, and if this site went belly-up tomorrow, it wouldn't matter much to me. It's been overrun with crap for a long time now, and I'm almost done with it, save my good friends in the Photo Group. Beyond that, it's no longer relevant at all to me. Your mileage may vary, and I don't begrudge anyone for still cherishing DU. I really wish I still did, but I don't and I really doubt if I ever will again.

very disappointing to me.
I came here to get away from criticism (and outright hatred) of the President (which I DO see and hear in real life), and find more of the same.

Truth be told, I only come here out of habit, now--not because I expect to get any kind of quality political analysis.

This place would have to have been invaded by an excessive number of hate-filled morons who could care less about Democrats, the Democratic Party or Obama. I agree with what you said.

those who yell the loudest.. I think you can almost take it to the bank, they did not vote for Obama, no matter how much they declare they did.. There would not have been that immediate hate that set in even before the inauguration. People just want him to fail, because THEY failed or are republican or plants.

| 10. Kaleva, weren't you the one that did an OP about Obama's base being black Americans? |
|
And you were literally EATEN ALIVE by that?? Of course posting it in GD may have been part of the problem.
For the life of me, I couldn't understand what the hell was going on during that thread. Are the white people here who trash Obama constantly really that shocked to learn that they don't represent his base??
Blacks voted for Obama something like 96%; black support for Obama is still hovering somewhere around 90%.
Obama got about 53-55% of the white vote; white support for Obama dropped to less than 40% before he'd completed ONE YEAR on the job.
Ummm... am I missing something? If you were the President, of these two groups based on these numbers, who in the world would you consider to be your base?? And these numbers are consistent with just about every other Democratic presidential nominee too since the 1960s. Did your OP tap into some fear that many have here that Obama is going to "settle the score" for black people so if you point out that they are more representative of his base, are they afraid that you'll set off some secret signal that sets the ball rolling for black folks to start taking over?
Along with minorities, Americans with post-graduate degrees are also more representative of Obama's "base" than your average white person. I wonder if you posted an OP about that, would people here howl the way that they did during your first OP????

I agree, but that hasn't stopped the majority of GD and GD:P.
There's yet another thread where someone does their dramatic "farewell to the Democratic Party 4EVA", too.

They're passionate, they're loud, and they are rude.
I hate that they color the board as a negative place, but I try to remember all the good DU members and how the good ones greatly outnumber the idiots.

Isn't it? And their claim to be "the base" is patently false - the base does not go away or make ridiculous threats they will disappear just to leave it all to the Republicans.
I hate these people more than I hate conservatives! Or, not wanting hate in my life, let's say, think they are far more pathetic. I actually hope for their sakes they are indeed Rep. operatives.
What I really hate is their negativity on economic matters - they rush to post any negative news and to down play any good news.
