When a poster at DU refers to our president as "Mr. Obama" do you find this disturbing?

7. "The Obama" is the one that gets me.

I've been seeing this more and more, and not just from posters but in online news articles and blogs. I don't know if it's sloppy editing (changing from "the president" to "Obama" and forgetting to remove the word "the") or if it's some kind of veiled slam. I just know it's becoming more frequent.

12. It seems as American as George Washington & Tom Jefferson, who wanted to be different...

... from European royalty, and had to figure out how to make that happen in a democratic/republican yet dignified manner. President Washington was His Excellency, but rejected His Highness, and the House and Senate agreed on a simple "President of the United States." Thomas Jefferson was apparently uncomfortable with all official pomp.

Mr. President is entirely proper when addressing the office-holder, and he will certainly be Mr. President the rest of his life. I don't think Mr. Obama is wrong, per se, but as someone else pointed out in this thread, it would depend on the context-- such as right-wingers referring to him as "Mr. Obama from the Democrat Party" just to be snarky.
