|
Edited on Mon Mar-08-10 06:59 PM by quiet.american
But the nonsense from the left leaves me shaking my head and wondering what is wrong with people.
Edited to add: it's really hard to listen respectfully to the rage thrown at HCR by the purported left because the criticism is not so much about the bill, but about tearing into Obama's character and motives, and with as much viciousness as those on the right. There also seems to be just as much deliberate distortion, misconception and misinformation about the bill disseminated from the left as from the teabaggers.
It's all just so insane. All this is about is protecting people from insurance companies and giving people a way to get insurance!

They really show how sensitive and bitter they are by flipping out any time he is criticized.

| 25. And one standard applies to Kucinich and one to everyone else |
|
When the Blue Dogs vote against HCR, they're traitors to the party/conservadems/Republicans and so on
When Kucinich votes against HCR, he's a principled hero of courage and integrity
When Kucinich expediently flipped flopped his position on abortion just a year before the 2004 presidential election, he got a free pass and taken at face value. Had Obama done the same on the same issue, I can guarantee you the reaction would have been howls of outrage
If President Obama had the same sort of non-existent success rate that Kucinich has in getting other members of congress to support his legislation, can you imagine what the insults and epithets would be from the Kucinich supporters?
But no, Dennis the Brave can do no wrong

| 15. Countdown - and he was the most destructive to the Democratic Party I've even seen him |
|
He was clear that he didn't give a shit if he was the deciding vote against healthcare reform. He'd rather we got nothing after 50 years of trying because we didn't get what HE wanted. Oh, and by the way, what he wants hasn't a snowballs chance in hell of passing. And there are a huge number of people right here on DU who could care less that thousands will continue to die each year due to no insurance. The all or nothing people are not Democrats, they are MEocrats. I'm sick thinking about how illogical their thinking is and how I have been putting off getting off Cobra for some time now waiting for reform to pass. Uggh. :(

However, if Washington were all about principles and not doing what was best and reasonable, nothing would get done.
There is a reason Kucinich has not done anything in Congress in over a decade he's been there.

| 21. By implication, are the Kuchites also promoting a "get nothing done" philosophy? |
|
I've always stood with Kucinich on the principals - I agree with him & admire him for standing on principal. But people like Kucinich (and his alter ego, Ron Paul), while normally harmless in a group of 435, can end up hurting or killing thousands of people when their inflexibility prevents critical reforms from passing that require a great deal of compromise to even pass by the narrowest of margins. There is a time for principled stands and a time for the greater good. In this case, Kucinich is working against the greater good of the American people and he deserves to be castigated severely for this.

that Kooch would save the country if we would JUST ELECT HIM PRESIDENT, MAN.
Bullshit. If Dennis Kucinich ever made it to the big chair, his utter intransigence and complete unwillingness to give a little to get a little would bite him in the ass over and over. Congress would refuse to cooperate at ALL, and his fan club would turn on him quicker than spit.

|
Edited on Mon Mar-08-10 11:55 PM by HughMoran
I've read what many of these people post on other sites. They have always supported Kucinich because they like his intransigence when it comes to compromise. Is it possible to live one's entire life without ever compromising? How do these people live in a family environment where "my way or the highway" is not an option? As I said above, I agree with Kuch on most issues and thus share his principals, but I also understand the words "compromise" and "pragmatism". Do you get that sick feeling in your stomach when thinking about such rigid people? I do.

| 26. I've contributed to Kucinich's campaigns in the past, not any more. |
|
At this point, I don't care if he goes down in flames.
Last year, I read his OP in the Cleveland Dealer where he explained why he voted no. What I came away with is that he voted no because the House bill didn't eliminate insurance companies, and because someday the American people will realize that single-payer above all is the only way. Until then, "no insurance for you!"
To me, that reasoning leaps over the boundary of reasonableness, or principle. Kucinich does not represent a wealthy district. His constituents need HCR, and he's standing with folded arms.
