| If I were Obama, I would look out across the sea of angry nimcompoops in this country-and walk away. |
|
Yep.
I don't know what keeps him going. Maybe it's the people he's met that he knows need help and will be helped by HCR that do it.
Maybe it's the memory of watching his Mom being terminally ill and having to plead with insurance companies for her coverage.
Maybe it's just about helping out people.
But to hear it told by some, it's because he is the corporate devil incarnate, facts be damned!
I used to contribute regularly to Kucinich. In fact, at one point, (and here I become red-faced)I actually dropped candidate Obama as my number 1 presidential choice and put Kucinich in there. (At that point, I was "concerned" about whether Obama had the energy to see the campaign through to the top spot... don't ask, let's just say I lost my mind for a few).
But now, I can't stand the sight of Kucinich or the sound of his rhetoric. The disdain I have for him has even eclipsed the disdain I have for Blue Dogs in general and all Republicans.
It comes down to this for Kucinich: Because HCR does not eliminate insurance companies, he's against it.
By his own "why I voted no" words in the Cleveland Dealer (I believe that's where I saw it), that's essentially it. He even concedes the bill has some important reforms, but he's still agin' it.
Pres. Obama must look out at the sea of all the misinformed angry on the left, and all the misinformed angry on the right and just shake his head.
I don't know how he keeps his resolve. Guess that's why he's president and I'm not! (Amidst a gazillion other reasons.)
/end rambling

| 1. Obama's calm demeanor is truly amazing. |
|
I couldn't do his job. I'd want to bash heads together and I'm not a violent person.

| 2. Hello! I wonder if he has a "scream room" where nobody can hear him, and he lets it all out. :) |
|
Come to think of it, I could use one myself.

| 3. Good ramble... Another thing I think that keeps President Obama |
|
going, besides all the people who do need the Health Care Reform to get started and the memory of his Mom's tragic entanglement with the insurance co, are.. The People who are there to help him along the way ..and that's no small number.
He has a lot of friends who keep him going..ones he knows and the vast amount out here in the country who know him.

| 4. I would love to see a SNL skit with Obama talking to Kucinich |
|
one on one. You know, Obama talking calmly and sensibly and Kucinich talking about UFOs and trying to justify a NO vote on something he thinks would actually help his constituents.

| 5. I imagine in real life that it would go something like this: |
|
The following link is an account of an encounter he had with Lieberman back in 2008. See the "Roll Call" update toward the bottom: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/04/lieberman-carries-mccains_n_105179.htmlAnother account of the encounter here: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/06/obama-confronts.html It has video, but you can't really see what went on all that well. I really don't know how he does it, either. I am already cursing up a storm that would make Rahm look like a choir boy, and I'm not even in his position.

| 6. He inherited a depression, a non-functional government, and an angry populace. |
|
If he can hang in there he will likely become one of our greatest presidents but if he throws in the towel I would not blame him for a second.
