It is written by Lynn Sweet, who is by NO means, a supporter of the President, yet even she felt compelled to get the FACTS out!

First, some numbers. Mrs. Obama did not travel with 40 friends, a number used by some news outlets.

She vacationed with two women, one of them a longtime Chicago pal, Anita Blanchard, who is the obstetrician who delivered Sasha and Malia. Blanchard is married to Marty Nesbitt -- President Obama's buddy and the treasurer of Obama's presidential campaign fund.

There was one other woman. Total: four daughters among the three women. They paid for their hotel rooms and other personal and travel expenses.

A White House source told me that Blanchard's father passed away and Mrs. Obama was not able to make the funeral at the beginning of July. Blanchard had promised her daughter she would take her to Spain for her birthday. She asked Mrs. Obama and Sasha to come with. (Malia is at overnight camp.)

"She felt it was important as a dear friend to do this," I was told.

I haven't posted in the Barack Obama Group before and I hope this is okay! I have to add, the President and his family are VERY, VERY popular in Canada (my home) and, were he to run here, he would be elected in a landslide, imo.

Lynn Sweet doesn't always write nice things about the Prez.. But, facts are facts..so there's no denying that although some would whine about anything the First Lady does no matter how gracious and kind she is.

Good for her and her friends taking Sasha to Spain!~ My sister who is a school teacher took her daughters & granddaughters to Spain via the Canary Islands over New Years. Loved it!

3. I have to give Ms. Sweet credit for this, the vitriolic lies being spread...

by the rabid right wing and other Obama critics must have been too much even for her! It would be refreshing to see if the FACTS are spread as widely as the disgusting lies were but I highly doubt that will be the case.

5. Thanks Spazito! That's a far sight better than the Fox News garbage

that other sites link to. As IF Fox News ever has their facts straight. Sure is nice to have the facts and especially great when it comes from someone (Ms. Sweet) who isn't necessarily favorable to the Obamas. If she even had it with all the negative BS then you know it was getting pretty nutty out there. She knows that some people will believe anything out of sheer hatred and prejudice and it's just not right.

7. I think she's just a tough reporter

I don't think her feelings enter into her job, one way or the other. I find her reporting on Obama to be pretty straight-up. I saw these snippets earlier but didn't notice who wrote it. I'm not surprised to find it's Lynn Sweet, she works hard to get the facts right I think.
