Just a friendly reminder for American citizen DUers who live outside the States:
Please ensure that you've registered for your absentee ballot, so that you can vote in the upcoming election.
I am reminded of the importance of same after reading some very misleading comments on other websites - including several stating that any US citizen who doesn't live in-country is actually "breaking the law" by voting in US elections from off shore.
I know, I know - you'd think (especially after the 2000 "election") most politically-savvy people would be familiar with the phrase "absentee ballot" - but alas, some people obviously aren't. And the fact that this kind of disinformation is being posted on alleged "Democratic" websites is especially appalling.
If you are a US citizen, regardless of where you currently reside, you can (and SHOULD!) still vote.
Information about where to obtain an absentee ballot can be found by Googling "Americans Abroad" in your country of residence, or by contacting your last US-state-of residence representatives.
And anyone who tells you that you cannot vote if you are a US citizen, but not a current US resident, is either lying - or insufferably stoopid.

You have to wonder what kind of "patriotic Americans" (and alleged Democrats) would spread misinformation about US citizens living abroad being allowed to vote.

| 4. The State Department web site has lots of info on absentee voting |
|
There's another group called Overseas Voter Foundation that I've used before but they have a habit of sending your e-mail address to other groups so that's a bit annoying.

| 5. Hi sweetie! I just wanted to thank you for the reminder. |

Many of us with kids who graduated recently and who left the country to work need to remind them about this since they've never voted abroad before. :patriot:

... for two reasons.
First, time is of the essence - and it can sometimes get away from you. When you're suffering the heat of August, November can seem eons away.
I remember when JeffR and I applied for our absentee ballots for the 2004 election. Although we applied at the same time, JeffR's ballot came WEEKS before mine (we registered to vote in different states, and that can make the difference).
By the time my ballot came in the mail, I literally had only a few days to return it.
The second reason was what I've stated in the OP - there is a LOT of misinformation out there about voting from out-of-country. And potential voters should beware of relying on info posted on websites by people who don't always know what they're talking about - or care.
One alleged "Dem" site recently cited moi as "breaking US law" because I have said on DU that I reside in Canada, but vote via absentee ballot in my home state of NY. It's hard to believe that anyone with any political savvy could be quite THAT stupid - but there you have it. I guess they're just parroting what they've read on red-type websites.
