16. I would like very much to see a few of these threads that get

so "disrupted" that ________________ . . . What? Posters can't post? Is that because the flames get so bad that the thread gets locked? Who is doing the flaming? If it's the OP, then I'd think s/he has the responsibility not to respond to flamers. If it's other posters, there may be more of a problem, though I for one don't understand why flaming results in locked threads. I say let 'em flame and those who want to follow the worthwhile stuff still can, while those who care about that sort of thing - And there probably ARE quite a few who come here solely for the purpose of fighting someone, anyone - can have what they want. The rest of us just have to put them on Ignore. I can't know who they are if I can't see what they are doing.

What is this 'block' feature and why should I buy it?

the OP-er to prevent everyone in a thread from seeing posts from certain other posters whom s/he has blocked.

I've been coming to the DU for 5 years and have yet to see anything that indicates the necessity of such a feature, especially when there is Ignore, so that an individual doesn't have to see the posts of certain other individuals.

I just don't like one person making that decision for everyone else.

Some people have indicated in various threads that they felt that the block feature was "killed" by a small, but vocal minority.

It'll be interesting to see if the poll results substantiate or refute that.

For those of us who missed whatever led to this thread (apparently a flamewar), it's an interesting, if somewhat pointed, question. Personally, I thought the block had pros and cons, but I was also a bit surprised at the vehemence with which both sides defended their positions on it. Obviously, little has changed.
