Blames failure to pass bar on question about gay marriage law. Wants donations to fund law suit so state can't ask anything about THE LAW which might violate
his personal beliefs. Seeking $$ for crusade to get personal beliefs to trump community/state laws. He is an agent of Theocracy!
http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Man_blames_bar_exam_failure_on_0713.html#comments On June 25, 2007, Dunne filed a federal complaint after failing his Massachusetts bar exam with a score of 268.866 out of 400; 270.0 was required to pass. He believes that this is due to his refusal to answer a question that he says requires the test taker to "affirmatively accept, support and promote homosexual marriage and homosexual parenting," and that the question violates his freedom of religion. Enthusiastically citing scripture, Dunne expresses his belief that the court ruling that affirmed same-sex marriage rights in Massachusetts, Goodridge v. Department of Public Health, is "profoundly undemocratic and un-American," and that the case is about "the protection and defense of Christianity."
(Mods: this is not a gay issue, but rather an attack on any professional requirement which some fundy parasite wants to use to make a buck. It is probably also about the fundy Us that want to force the destruction of any state standards for professions)
My take:
First there were the pharmacists who got their license so they could scream about THEIR beliefs being violated when they were expected to dispense lawful prescriptions, now this loser.
It's about THE LAW. If you don't like the law, you have the right to try and change the law. But it seems reasonable that a test to determine one's ability to work with THE LAW should include some questions about THE LAW.
These xian-U types are turning out activists (instead of Professionals) solely to try and overturn laws via claims of persecution instead of using the methods available in a democracy for same. They know they don't have the numbers to change the laws so they want to cram THEIR beliefs down society's throat through the back-door.
If a pharmacists decides what is and isn't going to be dispensed, that person is practicing medicine without the proper licensing.
Now, we have a would be lawyer deciding that bar exam questions should be up to him? He is really going over the edge.
Why not just suspend all education, professional standards, testing, licensing and let any ol body be what ever they want? Yeah, that's the ticket. There will be more work for the undertakers AND I can be the boss of you cuz I wanna be queen and if you don't let me, you are discriminating against MY belief that GOD gave me special rights to be the boss and you are persecuting ME!
If ya don't want to take the tests and actually adhere to professional standards, it is easy enough to get an ordination and start your own church. There are places where you can be a religious cleric by the letter (if not the spirit) of the law in less than 10 minutes. These would-be professionals might as well try that and leave professions to REAL professionals.
Damn fundie xians LOVE to be persecuted (like their Christ was) because it is so much easier than actually living by the tenets He outlined and AND the secular rules which are the not unlike Caesar's coin. I do seem to recall that Jesus had no trouble understanding the difference between religion and state.
But it is just so much easier (and profitable) to be persecuted like Jesus than actually LIVE like Jesus.
Gotta love
this comment from RAW comment poster Ya:
My religion forbids me to know math or physics. I want to be an engineer. I just failed my engineering test. i am suing the state. The state should not discriminate against my religious beliefs; therefore I am entitled to receive my full engineering degree, even though I have no interest in science or math. I'd like to build airplanes.
