I'll let it die its death if the mods deem it lock worthy.
But really, can someone tell me what to do about the current debacle? Because I'm at a loss. I have no idea what can possibly fix the mess. The Democrats won a majority in 2006, and nothing is being done. Not really. You can point to all the small accomplishments, but where are the big ones? An end to the war, an end to sanctioning torture, an end to the illegal "Patriot" act.
Supporting a third party doesn't work. Supporting the Democratic party doesn't work. Obviously, the Republicans are no good. So what's the plan? Where is the light at the end of this tunnel?
I'm frustrated.

Ridicule the zombies who practice sheepery and applaud the people who give the finger to the shepherds.
It's fun and it's easy.

| 6. It's a majority, but it's a SMALL majority |
|
To get the big things done, we'll need MORE Dems, not less. Veto-proof. Filibuster-proof.
Plus, a Dem Administration would help too.

But if you look at the vote breakdowns, there are dozens of Democrats who have betrayed their liberal base multiple times. We're not talking one or two votes here and there. How is more Democrats going to solve anything when there is a good sizable chunk of Democrats who vote with the Republicans on fundamental issues like Iraq?

They don't HAVE a liberal base. They are conservative Democrats from conservative parts of the country, and if we ran more liberal Dems in those areas, we'd get Republicans elected.

| 7. I honestly do not know. I'm so disappointed in the pathetic performance of our "leaders" in congress |
|
:grr:
I mean - honestly....
How many stern letters have to be sent before declaring the WH and its operatives in contempt of congress? We have to get the money out of campaigns. We also need a true independent and strong media, willing to ask the hard questions, and follow up with researching the answers they are given by govt officials. A media willing to call a spade a spade.
And mostly we need the American people to wake up and give a damn. It is shameful that most elections don't get even HALF of all eligible voters to the polls.

There are a multitude of problems - corporate money, DLC jackassery, an apathetic electorate, etc - and too little organization on our end. We keep waiting for the Democrats to stand up to the status quo, but that obviously isn't going to happen any time soon.
If *we're* going to do anything - and it'll have to be us if anyone does - we need to focus, unite and organize...and then hunker down for the work of lifetimes. First order of business, istm, is to organize cross-interest. Minority/union, gay/minority, environmentalist/left religious, etc. Unite everywhere we can and organize.

I think there were a number of political pundits that predicted we would do no more than hold the line after 2006. I never got my hopes up too much to tell you the truth.

| 12. There are too few who actually care |
|
The MSM is more concerned with whether Britney Spears is wearing underwear when she goes out on the town, or whether Hillary's campaign staff left a tip for the waiters, or if OJ is going to skate again. This country is in stupor mode and on auto pilot. Those of us who come here and are informed enough to debate the issues care. Regrettably, the majority does not. Until that changes, we will continue in this downward spiral.

elect more dems. at least in the Senate. Really good progressive dems are running in Maine (Tom Allen, currently a U.S. Rep), Colorado (Mark Udall, current U.S. Rep), NM (Tom Udall, U.S. Rep), NH (Jeanne Shaheen, former Gov, and not quite as progressive, but still good). And yes, even Mark Warner in VA, even though he's not a progressive. Here's the deal, the larger the majority the more progressive legislation. History bears that out. Take a look at what FDR accomplished with super majorities.

work to get the enablers out in primaries, and replaced with Liberals
If that does not work... yes, it is time to look at NOT voting for the usual suspects, even if your candidate does not win
The problem is... if enough disgrunted people do vote for a third party... that candidate will get in...
The system is rigged... but your other choice is to do exactly what the elites ON BOTH SIDES want you to do... throw up your hands and NOT show up
Start by becoming an indie and NOT giving a red cent to either national party.
Give to LIBERAL candidates, and that's it.
And yes, they cound on us voting for the lesser of the two evils... and it is time we change that dynamic.

| 19. agree. I don't give to the DNC, DLC, DSCC, or DCCC. I give to individuals who are liberal |

and progressive.
I think this is the last election cycle I will openly support the Dems UNLESS they start being Dems again. If - after next November - we still have the same pathetic excuses and the same lack of REAL action from the Congressional Dems then I will switch my party affiliation to independent.
We truly brave strong truthtellers, diplomats and politicians to get America back on track. I see no signs of such leadership in the Democratic leaders in congress.
