Remember Jim Wright? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_WrightTom Foley? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_FoleyThose who say Nancy Pelosi is secure in the Speaker's chair might do well to remember her last two Democratic predecessors. - Dave

| 1. They were tossed out for Ethics violations that had nothing to do with ideology. |

| 6. Both Fallen Speakers Started out... |
|
... strongly, but ended up losing the post.
I don't mean to suggest that Speaker Pelosi has ethics problems. But I think a large portion of the caucus believes she's been an ineffective Speaker.

| 9. Why do you think that? |
|
just curious about what you've heard in terms of what the caucus thinks about her. I get the impression that there's a real power struggle between her and Hoyer.

... and I wouldn't bet hard money on him as her replacement.
But - assuming the Dems hold the House and/or gain seats - I expect that she will be challenged.

| 12. You're probably right, however, |
|
whenever there is a shift of any size in the House, it's not at all unusual for there to be a challenge for the Speakers chair.

| 3. Tom Foley was drummed out by the "term limits" repub lie du jour.. |
|
by one slimy asshole by the name of George Nethercutt..
After pledging to serve for only three terms, and vowing that he was a "Washington outsider" he "changed his mind" and ran for two more after that, finally quitting his seat to run for the Senate against Patty Murray who whupped his ass.
He's now engaged in "lobbying" with his good buddies and fellow slimeballs J. Steven Griles and Andrew Lundquist. His daughter is also a lobbyist. Right, some outsider.

| 8. That was definitely collective stupidity on that District's part.. |
|
Foley had a whole lot of power and clout in the House, and at least he was an honest man and had some integrity, and they tossed him for a lying scumbag.
