Rancho Cordova Man Freed After 28 Months in Jail
A Rancho Cordova man has special reason to give thanks this week. A Sacramento jury acquitted him of kidnap and rape charges that could have sent him to prison for life.
Peter Douet, 24, left the county jail early Wednesday morning after being cleared of all nine counts against him.
He had been held without bail since his arrest in July, 2005.
"You really don't realize what you miss until it's gone," Douet told News10 during an interview in his parents' living room. "Breathing fresh air and making your own decisions."
Douet was with three friends on the night of July 9, 2005 when they picked up a prostitute on Stockton Boulevard in south Sacramento.
The woman said she was taken to a motel in Rancho Cordova and raped repeatedly. But she also said Douet did not take part in the assault.
