What if Al- Qaeda is fake?
What if there is no such thing as "Al Qaeda" as we are told to be scared of by Bushco?
The "Commies" were a great enemy in theory because a few of them actually existed. In order for Bushco to obtain the power that they have over the past 6 years, they needed a huge enemy to scare us right out of our common sense and civil rights.
Another thing that always stuck out in my mind was to think back to the term "Al Qaeda". "Al Qaeda" translates to "the base" in English. Who do you know that uses the term "the base"? Wasnt it the mantra of the Rovian-Right to "get out the base"?

By Robert Scheer
Los Angeles Times
Is it conceivable that Al Qaeda, as defined by President Bush as the center of a vast and well-organized international terrorist conspiracy, does not exist?
Consider, for example, that neither the 9-11 commission nor any court of law has been able to directly take evidence from the key post-9-11 terror detainees held by the United States. Everything we know comes from two sides that both have a great stake in exaggerating the threat posed by Al Qaeda: the terrorists themselves and the military and intelligence agencies that have a vested interest in maintaining the facade of an overwhelmingly dangerous enemy.
Such a state of national ignorance about an endless war is, as "The Power of Nightmares" makes clear, simply unacceptable in a functioning democracy.

by Thom Hartmann
What if there really was no need for much - or even most - of the Cold War? What if, in fact, the Cold War had been kept alive for two decades based on phony WMD threats?
What if, similarly, the War On Terror was largely a scam, and the administration was hyping it to seem larger-than-life? What if our "enemy" represented a real but relatively small threat posed by rogue and criminal groups well outside the mainstream of Islam? What if that hype was done largely to enhance the power, electability, and stature of George W. Bush and Tony Blair?
And what if the world was to discover the most shocking dimensions of these twin deceits - that the same men promulgated them in the 1970s and today?
It happened.

I also think that it is funny how Bush was able to accomplish what J. Edgar Hoover was only able to wish for.....

A newly declassified document showing that former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover had a plan to imprison some 12,000 U.S. citizens he suspected of disloyalty provides an ominous reminder that all Americans have a vital interest in the outcome of the current debate over habeas corpus.
On July 7, 1950, less than two weeks after the start of the Korean War, Hoover sent the Truman White House a plan for detaining thousands of Americans in military prisons to “protect the country against treason, espionage and sabotage.”
Under the plan, Hoover’s agents would carry out the mass arrests, working from a master list of names that the FBI chief had been quietly compiling for years. Prisoners would have the right to an eventual hearing by a board made up of one judge and two citizens, but the hearings would “not be bound by the rules of evidence.”
All Hoover needed to carry out this scheme was a presidential proclamation suspending habeas corpus, the centuries-old legal guarantee that no person can be locked away without a fair and impartial review.
